The Grizzlies could offer more for Amare. They could take back less salary I believe, getting Phoenix under the luxury tax, while also giving up decent young prospects. At least better prospects than the Bulls by far
Yeah but the Grizzlies turned down the trade offer from the Suns. I just don't think they want Amare's big contract that much.
The Grizz apparently already rejected PHX offer of Amare for Gay and Conley. They are a franchise with financial issues as well. So I really don't know if Memphis is a real possibility.
Sarver apparently called Memphis, so he probably liked the idea of trading with them and taking back much less salary. But Memphis supposedly isn't interested...they probably don't think Amare would re-sign.
Tyrus Thomas is a more attractive prospect than Bayless at this point. And the Bulls trade would probably be ending up more salary friendly for the Suns. The Blazers trade, assuming the same incoming package (Amare, Amudson, Barnes) sheds $1.948 million off Phoenix's cap. The Bulls package (Thomas, Gooden, Simmons) sheds $4.021. The Bulls could then do a second deal, such as Alando Tucker for the Bulls trade excpetion in a wink wink deal, and bam, Phoenix is under the luxury tax, and is beginning to collect luxury tax revenues from the other teams. Much more financially attractive than the Blazers package.
I really don't think Thomas is a more attactive prospect then Bayless and I have a feeling the Suns really want Bayless as do many teams that want to trade with the Blazers. I would rather keep Bayless and would only even want to trade him if we got a great trade like Amare for him.
As a prospect, Bayless should be more appealing. Jarryd will be a starter and a good one in the future. Tyrus is NOT a starter. He's a hustle player who, at his best, would be a team's Travis Outlaw off the bench. Thomas, Gooden, Simmons, and this is supposed to be a good package? This package alone doesn't reach the value of Raef's (insurance covered) expiring deal.
not sure i agree with that because more teams are looking for PG prospects, but TT's stock is certianly way up.
If Portland is getting Devin Harris, then I'd happily send Bayless for Amare. But if Portland can't swing that, I don't know what other good young point guards they can target.
Thomas is beginning to become a lot like Andre Kirileinko, only fiercer. After the bad November, his season stats have improved to 9.7 PPG 6.0 RPG 1.8 BPG 1.1 SPG. Those are some pretty solid numbers. He still has to work on the rebounding, and he has a lot of good offensive moves and can dribble, he just needs to learn finish better. He's developing a nice jumpshot. His block/steal numbers are just really good though. In February, he's been outstanding, which is why there is so much buzz around him all of a sudden. I'm not sold on him becoming that third guy for Chicago behind Rose and Gordon, thus why I have no problem trading anything outside of Rose on the Bulls roster (and by extension, Gordon, since he can't be traded) for Amare. But Thomas is only 22 years old, and is starting to put it together. He's no longer looking like a big bust.
sloth man your hilarious. In what ways is he a better prospect? Bayless still has like 3 1/2 years on a rookie scale contract too btw. And would be able to put up ridiculous numbers if given actual playing time. Tyrus Thomas has had a million chances, and is finally becoming a decent player. He's not a starter on a good team and never will be. Bayless has a much higher chance to become a starting player
Kirilinko? that's hilarious. Yeah, if you take away AK's jumper, range, basketball IQ, post game, then yeah. If Jerryd put up 10/6 in his third year I'd be highly disappointed.
Batum's potential is way higher than Deng's. Batum is already a better and more versatile defender anyway. There are maybe 5 players that can defend any single player in the NBA and Batum is one of them. Deng will never be that player.
Stoudemire would fit perfectly in with Detroit. I have a feeling that if Pritchard called up Dumars with an offer of Amare, we'd easily be able to pry away Rodney Stuckey and Tayshaun Prince.
