I have never actually listened to 620. It's funny, it seems Issac and Suke are an acquired taste. However, that being said, they can be pretty tasteless at times, and I have to shut them off.
620 AM used to be the Progressive Talk Station (a station listened to by 30K+ people in Portland). Mitt Romney gets pounded in the election and then they switch the format out of spite. Even though it was highly listened to. Fuck Mitt Romney, Bain Capital, Clear Channel, AND FOX. I will never listen to that station again.
The decision to switch formats had nothing to do with the election. If the progressive talk format made money they would have kept it. Bain is about making money. I'm not sure where that 30k listeners number came from but I know their book ratings were not good. But more importantly they had a terrible time finding local advertising. Progressive Talk radio has done very poorly nationwide. Lots of angry and scared old people will listen to conservative talk radio.
How is that research or prove anything? It's some guy's blog post who admits multiple times that he doesn't know anything about what happened. As for your "always in the black statement here is what he said: "ClearChannel’s a corporation, and their only directive is to make money. If KPOJ had been a cash cow for them they’d probably keep milking it as long as they could. We’ve heard from several sources that KPOJ was always in the black (although we obviously have no way to confirm that)." But in the same blog post he also says the following: "The station said they had been losing listeners for a while, and baseball was an attempt to expand listenership." " It was a ClearChannel corporate decision, we were told, and KPOJ had been losing money and listeners for over two years. They’d tried to increase ratings without success, and this was a more profitable way to go." "First of all, we have no definitive inside knowledge of why the station changed formats." Stations change formats all the time. If Progressive Talk radio was always in the black like you claim a different station would have picked up that format by now. Sports talk radio reaches a male demographic that advertisers want. This isn't a giant conspiracy.
http://www.wweek.com/portland/blog-29457-former_kpoj_host_car.html Carl Wolfson said his show always made money. I know for a fact that Thom Hartmann's show made money (he will be on KBOO soon). Rush Limbaugh has been losing advertisers left and right but suddenly his show is propped up (it's been losing lots of money the past year and a half) on 6 networks? http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/...R-State-Universities-prop-up-6-Rush-stations# I guess since no one (right wing clear channel) will ever tell us, you can believe what you believe. I see conspiracy.
Your first link is almost 10 months old and your 2nd link is an editorial. Again, if Progressive Talk radio was a money maker someone by now would have switched to that format to make that money. If Carl Wolfson always made money someone would have picked him up by now. And just so you are clear I hate Limbaugh and conservative talk radio. Liberal or Conservative, any talk radio that is devoted to one narrow point of view is dangerous and doesn't help anything. I'm just not seeing a giant conspiracy theory here.
That is a cop out. The age of any link doesn't make it any less true. It's 10 months old because that's how long ago they changed formats. Carl has his own Internet radio show now. Thom Hartmann is still on the air in many cities (even Africa) and will be on KBOO soon.
How is that a cop out? From the first line of the article: "Former progressive talk-radio host Carl Wolfson says he’s been busy meeting with potential backers to return him to the airwaves since KPOJ-AM 620 switched to an all-sports format Nov. 9." And then there is this from that same article: "The former host of "Carl in the Mornings" is moved by the outpouring, and wants his listeners to know he's fine—his schedule is packed with coffee meetings about potential new airwave homes." It's very valid that I pointed out that article is from 10 months ago. You're the one claiming he always made money. If that were true he would have found backers or those "coffee meetings" would have paid off and would be back on the radio. The passage of time only serves to validate my position that KPOJ switched formats because of money and not because of some conspiracy.
Pipe down. Your thread was about KPOJ and that's what we're talking about. If the above circumstances wouldn't have happened, you wouldn't even have a thread.
