With Jusuf out and Meyers with the best Blazer statistics, I would like to see Meyers start, or at least be on the floor for at least 20 min of the game, taking 10 or more swish3 attempts. If he is making siwsh3s, I really hope that Terry will leave him in the game authorized to keep shooting, instead of taking him out of the game when he is hot (as Terry has done several times in the past). A W is quite possible!
I like 10 attempts. That means guaranteed 15 points! Why not 20 attempts though? That's 30 points for us.
I can think, I can sleep, I can move, I get enjoy the symphony that is a Meyers Leonard swish3 - I am the happiest human being in the history of Western civilization
Since we are talking about swish3's; I just noticed a statistic. Blazers are 8th in the league at shooting wide open (no defender within six feet) threes, at 43.9%. That surprised me a little, (and also that there are several teams in the low 30's and one below 30). But I also noticed that Blazers are nowhere near the top in attempts on wide open threes. That's surprising also, since it seems teams leave Amino and Harkless pretty wide open out there. We only have 12.7 wide open 3 attempts per game; while Pelicans, Raptors and Jazz have over 20, while Dallas has almost 20, Hawks, Bulls and Pistons over 17, and Nets, Bucks, Celtics, Wizards over 16. Interesting, since we do pretty well hitting open threes, why aren't we taking them or producing opportunities for them?
Passing and movement without the ball increase the number of open looks. Blazers playing with hustle and determination can do this, increasing swish3 scoring and assists, both of which are a winning strategy. Yes, let's see Meyers take more than 10, maybe even 12-16, attempts. Up to now, Zach has taken nearly 4 times as many 3PA as Meyers, and that does not make sense. Meyers can be the difference that gets the W against the Warriors as I imagine this game.
There are 5 Blazers who should not take any swish3 attempts based on FG3%. They are: Nurkic 0.0% ! Turner 30.9% Collins 30.6% Layman 28.6% Swanigan 16.7% Instead, preserve the swish3 attempts for the Blazers who make them.
Blazers beat the Warriors! Even though short of the 15 swish3s that is optimum strategy, good scrappy play, passing, rebounds, and limited turnovers were successful. That was a good game for Nurk, who committed 0 turnovers while scoring 17 on 7 of 14 shooting with 13 rebounds. Kudos, Nurk! And Dame and CJ bettered Curry and Klay. The Blazers offense can be even better with the additional 3 swish3s that I hope can be added in the next Jazz and following games. It sure is nice to achieve more than 120 point scoring in the 48 min!
Additional 20 swish 3s from Meyers would have added extra 30 points and made it the highest conceded points for Warriors in the last decade with 153.
Meyers could have contributed the missing 3 swish3s in the 3rd and 4th quarters. I hope that he will have that chance in games. Sarni, you have the formula that shows why high % shooting of swish3s is powerful. We can win with it.
