In my view, give credit where credit is due. Zach did well, and is included as you see. The Blazers need to use swish3 talent to continue winning, and should include those who can do it. There is no way that I would exclude Meyers from the list after he averaged 60% of swish3s in the first part of the season. This is an exceptional season for the Blazers. I would like to encourage great play by acknowledging success by every player. Team wins and Championship will follow.
In the win over the Cavaliers Mar 15, the Blazers scored 12 swish3s which is short of the 15 that would be optimal and flirted with losing the lead in the 4th quarter. Mo, Chief, Shabazz, and Pat shot swish3s at 50%, but Dame and Jusuf had an off night. This winning streak can and should continue if the Blazers use the best shooting talent and keep the swish3 scoring at 15 or more per game. With Ed not scoring and Jusuf only scoring 3 FG, I saw an opportunity to add 3-5 swish3s with Meyers, who remains the Blazers best swish3 shooter. As Dame said, we need for teammates to step up in these 2nd half situations. I imagine continued wins with using the talent and continued determination.
I used to have a drinking game based around guessing Meyers stats with a friend of mine. Since Meyers rides the pine it makes it an inconsistent game to play just like Meyers inconsistent stats! Now my friend and I can't get a free shot from Meyers any more, both of us are okay with that! I do like the balanced scoring and team effort all across the board. It's a harder game to defend. When the swish3 are flying this is a very deadley team. I don't see our win streak ending any time soon!
The Blazers got the win over the Pistons and the 43rd win taking the winning streak to 12, which is the good news! However, the Blazers scored only 8 (of 31) swish3s and were shooting only 20% of swish3s in the first half, and this is not enough for the upcoming 5 games. Only Mo shot swish3s well. This game was a time to put in swish3 shooting talent with the mandate to shoot, and thus an example of when Meyers adding 3-5 swish3s would bring the strategy back to 11-12 of the 3 pointers and keep the point total around 112. Increased scoring will be needed to win over the Clippers, Rockets, Celtics, Thunder, and Pelicans in the upcoming games. When the swish3s are not falling for the Blazers, a better strategy would be to substitute and authorize the best swish3 shooters, especially Meyers, to make the swish3s to insure a minimum of 12 of them. Meyers played well (including defending Drummond) and could have added swish3 scoring when played for more minutes.
OK. Thanks! Terry acknowledged that we need better swish3 scoring in his quoted comments. I hope that we will see substitutions that give great swish3 scoring, defense, and minimized turnovers in the Clippers game tomorrow.
Nards played well. Didn't just settle for his three point shot. More of that, could possibly get him more PT. IF Nurk/davis are in foul trouble. But make no mistake, Nards won't be playing ahead of Nurk, Davis, Collins on the depth chart.
In the win over the Clippers, the Blazers scored 14 swish3s and reached 122 points, which is good, but short of the 15 or more that are likely to be needed for wins over the Rockets and following 3 games. That was good swish3 shooting by Mo, Chief, CJ, and Shabazz, and another pleasing defensive effort by Jusuf. To keep the wins coming, the Blazers need to favor shooting by the hot hands, keep the turnovers down (there were 13 in this game, which is too many), keep playing determined defense, and make substitutions to keep the energy level up. With Ed fouled out and Zach having an off night, I would have played Meyers for at least 8 min, and taking several swish3s, as I imagine will be needed for a win over the Rockets. The Blazers can win 50 or more games and keep the number 3 seed. The Rockets game Tuesday can be a preview of the Western Conference Finals and a step on the way to winning the Championship!
Yes, Sarni, I am a Meyers fan, and think it makes sense to point out that he is still the Blazers leading swish3 shooter. But he should have more playing time and shots to keep up the Blazer power (swish3) scoring. When we include him, the Blazers have a higher probability of winning the Championship. This is the year!
I don't think the 9 or 10 three pointers he has made this season are really a proof of anything but I admire your enthusiasm. If there was one GM with the same sort of Meyers obsession in the league, we would probably get a top 10 pick or a star in return for him instead of possibly having to attach picks to get rid of his contract.
Small sample size is more subject to randomness. His 9/19 or whatever it is has no merit. Two threes is the difference between 30 and 40%.
How is Meyers supposed to shoot 3s when defenses guard him at the 3pt line? His release is slow and defenders get 2 inches away from him when he catches the ball out there. So how is he supposed to shoot "several" 3s in 8 minutes?
Nards didn't deserve to play in the second half. He deserved to be pulled for his lack of defensive effort. Which he was. Nards took a wide open three, and he didn't get back on defense. Instead he let his man(who didn't contest his three) beat him down the court. Which lead to a wide open Lou Williams layup because Nards was sealed by Boban. Literally any coach at any level would pull a player for not getting back on defense. Being that in your own posts offense didn't win this game, instead defense did. Why would you want a player whom you can't trust to do a basic defensive concept? This concept is drilled into you at elementary school...
His equations don't consider that. Meyers is guaranteed to shoot 50%. If he shot twice from the halfway line guarded by 5 players he will still score 1 of them because he is GUARANTEED to score 50%.
