Is that Blazers legend Travis Diener off the bench there celebrating that dunk?

    Winner winner, Travis Diener.

Someone help me out here... I see Batum, Bayless, Rudy, Jeff Pendergraph, Patty Mills...... who the hell is the little white dude? I'm drawing a complete blank.

    Nevermind..... Andalusian answered my question.

Dame needs to spend the entire summer schooling this guy at 1v1.

I wonder what a season with Dame and Ant would do for Sharpe as opposed to, say, Fox and Mitchell, or Tyrese and Brogdon. We need him to become a great point of attack defender ASAP.

McLemore + serious lob threat / finisher at the hoop. With better defense than McLemore. Better ball handling and most likely better passing than McLemore.

Have him work with Josh Hart and Justise Winslow on defense. They're closer in size to him anyway than Simons and Lillard. He needs to know everything they know.

Sorry, I just meant for the season. If he’s a good shooter right away, he will at least have a role on the team, as opposed to not having one at all like Simons during his rookie year. If Simons was shooting 36% from 3 consistently that season, there should’ve been no reason for Stauskas to ever play ahead of him.

Yes, I agree Sharpe will be better at all those things than McLemore eventually.

I don't get the McLemore comps.

Sharpe: 6'4.25 without shoes, 8'7.5 standing reach, 6'11.5 wingspan.

McLemore: 6'3.5" without shoes, 8'4.5 standing reach, 6'7.75 wingspan.

Maybe he will be great but when? Not soon. And who's he going to play ahead of right now? Do you see minutes for him?

So, in three or four season (optimistically) he *might* be awesome. Why are we acting like this is a good thing? This is about complimenting a guy who is awesome wight now.

Your explanation no working for me.

Because the likelihood of building a legit contender around Dame in 1-2 seasons, even if we did trade the pick, was and is almost zero.

We need another foundational star. The draft, and in this case Sharpe, are the best chance that we have to acquire a superstar talent. We simply don't have the assets to go after anyone else, unless Durant says he only wants to play in Portland.

In typical Blazer Fan Forum fashion we have people comparing him to Michael Freakin Jordan, Kobe "Mamba" Bryant all the way down to Ben Myopic McLemore.

I understand. I want him to be good also but this kid won't see serious minutes this year other than garbage time is what I'm thinking at this point.

It's so hard to say. I never thought in a million years that Batum would be in the rotation, let alone starting, when we drafted him.

Okay. So he's an undersized 3, and therefore, will just slip into the starting lineup at some point? This season? I'm less optimistic, and therefore more irritated at the situation than you.

And now we are just going to give up on Dame's prodigy? An actual, legitimate player? This does not bode well for winning basketball, which allow me to remind you, was the whole point of all this. We are behaving like a lottery team, not a team looking to win anything.

He should see serious minutes, even if we lose a few games because of it. If he shows promise he can shift the foundation of this team because it either:

1.) Changes the way you view some of the other players on this team (Dame/Ant/Hart etc.) as far as whether you're comfortable trading them or not.

    or

2.) Increases his trade value for other teams and we can trade him for a starting/star level player.

I'm just not sure what you expected. Did you think we were going to be able to build a contender over night?

Uh...and this is it? We are fucked. The kid might end up being a star, sure, but on Dame's timeline?

But this is why I'm asking. The answer so far is that no one is thinking critically about this at all. It's exciting to have a high ceiling player, don't get me wrong, but we should be sacrificing the high ceiling for help now. Now we have an actual superstar who needs much more than Grant to succeed.

Sharpe might see the floor this season or he might not. Give him two years. That is definitely within Dame's window. And since Dame was apparently all in on drafting him, Dame seems to agree.

This is very untrue. Ant was a drag on the whole system until last season.

And it just doesn't make us better now. Am I alone in thinking that should be the priority?

Am I the only one who thinks Sharpe should get a guaranteed spot in the rotation???
