If you bring in Pau it's because you believe that one of Plumlee or Leonard will turn into something special in two years. I still think Neil is making moves with an eye towards the 2018 playoffs.
He could alternatively be stupid, or under hypnosis, or actually working for Memphis. We can think lots of things. In the end, it doesn't even matter... Wait.
We'll never be bad enough to tank in the next few years, and we'll have no cap flexibility either. So either way we won't become a true contender unless we trade for a star, which will always be an option. Therefore, Gasol will make us better now but won't be what will get us stuck, as were already stuck.
"Portland remains very much in the hunt for Pau Gasol even after the Evan Turner signing today, per league sources. Might take some maneuvering, but Blazers have room & flexibility."
I would be very okay with Gasol. He seems like he still has 2-3 years left in the tank at a decent to high level, and he can also fulfill the vet big guy role we now need. Plus he would be the big name people were clamoring for.
well, he's good at REALLY interior defense (3' and in), but I don't know that I saw a whole bunch of interior defense on OKC, GSW, CLE... I mean, I'd take Gasol on the floor over Steven Adams, Tristan Thompson, Andrew Bogut, Festus Ezeli, Timmy Mosgov, Enes Kanter...even at 35.
he'd be a really interesting pickup, with our C depth he could play 20-25 MPG effectively vs the over 31 mpg he played last yr
