The Blazers have about $40,086,689 committed salary on 11 roster spots. With the minimum team salary at $63M, that gives the Blazers $22,388,218 to spend on 4 open roster spots just to meet the minimum. Assuming that Pat Connaughton will probably be making less than $1M, that leaves about $21.4M to spend on 3 roster spots - or about $7M per.

This higher cap number is probably bad for the Blazers. Yes we get a tiny bit of extra cap room but now the other 29 teams all have more room. They may be able to sign one of the last free agents we might have got, not need to use our cap space in a trade or pay a smaller luxury tax payment to Paul Allen's bank account.

I wonder why they renounced the rights to Gee when they technically didn't have to. Teams usually wait until they need to free up cap space to renounce a players rights. Blazers have cap space to spare. And no word on renouncing the rights to Wright. Hmm....

Yeah it doesn't mention Wright or Freeland. I'm not sure with Freeland signing in Russia if we can keep his bird rights but remove him from the cap. Teams can do that now with draft picks.

I bet we're thinking of signing Wright; he's good friends with Damian and fits a need in our lineup; or were exploring sign and trades with him. They must've decided there's no chance we bring back Gee.

What is Gee's cap hold? They probably think it doesn't matter because he only gets League Minimum this year so why do they need his bird rights? They can still bring him back if he wants to come back.

    Nevermind. This is why:

Eric Picus Twitter I think who runs Basketball Insiders. The page hasn't been updated in two days.

I've updated the main post to show the acquisition of Maurice Harkless.

The Blazers now have 13 roster spots filled, with 3 of those spots non-guaranteed (Crabbe, Frazier, and I'm assuming Connaughton). They have $24,761,929 of CAP space available.

We also signed Luis Montero although usually only something around $30k is guaranteed.

I thought I heard Pat Connaughton deal is guaranteed for two years and that would be similar to Crabbe and Barton's contracts.

Montero is guaranteed $600,000 K in 3-year deal that could be worth up to 2.3 million.

$2.3M for 3 years. Assuming 4.5% increases, that works out to $733,179 for the first year. I've updated the main post accordingly.

If Connaughton is signed to a 3 yr $2.5M contract, at 4.5% increases, that makes his first year salary $800K. Eric Picus' info says $625,100 for year one. That doesn't add up. My guess is that $625K is guaranteed for year 1.

remember, you don't have to abide by the 4.5% (or 7.5%) if you're hitting a minimum. 525k, 875k, 1.015M comes out to 2.415M. So they may have set it so that they tap 75k more into cap space so that it's not a minimum contract in Year One for both Montero and Connaughton. And I don't see any way that Montero could be on a 2.3M contract starting at 600k. If he just went vet min contract the whole way, it'd be 2.415M.

Edit: I think I figured it out. If you just went down the table for 2015-16 salaries, then rookie+2nd year+3rd year minimums = 2.3M (actually, $2,317,428) But you don't do that. You need 2015-16 Rookie Min + 2016-17 2nd-year Min + 2017-18 3rd-year Min. That comes out to 2.415M. Add in from there.

So Luis is probably 600k, 875k, 1.015k for a total of 2.49M (1st year guaranteed). Connaughton is probably 625k, 875k, 1.015k for a 2.515M total (first two years guaranteed). Both keep full Bird rights as long as they finish the contracts.

As of right now, assuming that the salary cap remains at 70M ( i know it wont, but assuming), how much under the cap are we next summer?
