if the division winner had the 9th best record in their conference, they'd be the 4th seed in the playoffs and would not have home court advantage in any round.

I'm not sure of the rules for Division Champs when two teams are tied. Currently SA vs Houston are tied in record and tied 2-2 head to head. But SA has the better in-division record. So I think SA are currently Division leaders over Houston.

Seeding in a three way ties works like this:
    1. Division Champ (that puts SA 1st among the three teams since they are currently Div Champs)
    2. Record among the 3 teams (Houston beats us there)

Your're right about that. I was treating HCA based on seeding which was wrong.

I thought the link I quoted is only for tie breakers when records are equal and that records are the first thing looked at. I guess not though.

Slim chances left at the NW Division title.

If Denver loses to OKC (close game tonight), loses to the Lakers tomorrow and wins against Sacramento on Monday, they are 53-28.
If the Blazers beat the Lakers on Friday, Clippers on Saturday and OKC on Monday, we're 53-28.

Leaves one game left for both teams:
Denver @ Portland, April 15 for the NW Division championship.

Well, according to NBA.com, we're still in 5th.

I don't think we can. Denver owns a better division and conference record than us.

    Oh geez.....here we go again....unreal:

"LaMarcus Aldridge scored 20 points, and Joe Przybilla had 17 rebounds. It was the 50th win for Portland, a mark the Trail Blazers haven't reached since 2002-03."

Ok this is how I'm reading it...

First division winner is determined between Hou/SA, that team gets 3rd seed. Then the non division winner would be in a two way tie with us for 4th seed. We'd get 4th against SA but 5th against Hou. Currently SA has the division tiebreaker as they've played and won 1 more division game than Hou which is why we are listed in 5th.

Lets say the three of us win out.

Hou/SA would then have identical head to head, division record, and conference record tiebreakers. The next tiebreaker is "Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference" so someone needs to calculate that for both teams.:sigh:

But if Hou loses 1 game and we win out we get 3rd seed.
If all three of us lose 1 game but SA loses a division game and Hou loses a non-division game we get 4th seed.

I could tell tonight that Greg was making a conscious effort to stay out of foul trouble. He let some guys score, but he didn't get cheap fouls either. So since he got to stay in the game, the centers for the Blazers ended up with 11 points and 25 rebounds. That is what I call controlling the paint. If you control the paint, and take care of the ball, you win the game.

Post game video from San Antonio's side, basically talking about how young and athletic we are from Pop, Parker and Mason.

Seems like Rudy is always the one starting are big runs. Also, Sergio isn't bothering me as much anymore that he has started to develop a deceptive driving game to his repertoire. I'm glad that he finally notices when teams are always playing the passing lanes it allows him easy looks.

I still say beating a fully healthy Orlando team without Greg and Joel in foul trouble was the more impressive win. The Spurs are a battered team, but a great win on the road none the less, up there with the NO comeback.

I had to work very late yesterday and got home with about 3 minutes to play. But I will have the pleasure of watching the DVD this weekend. (Sorry, can't bring it to the Seder at my brother's tonight, tomorrow busy watching the Blazers beat LA).

    Meanwhile, GO KINGS GO

Can they pull it out vs. Houston at home?

For as much as I hate their lawyer ball tactics, they're a classy bunch of guys who seem to have some measure of respect for us. It seems that the BTB played heavy in their minds. I guess that's what happens with a veteran team.

Those guys won't be tired in the playoffs--you get plenty of rest. I'm not so sure this is the team I want to face in the first round. When they were fresh, they utterly dominated us.
