Howard and Parsons would give us, what, a top 3-4 starting unit?

Assuming Durant goes back, i firmly believe top 4, if healthy (behind Cavs/GSW/Warriors)

The Blazers not only get a top-shelf small forward if they beat out Memphis for Chandler Parsons but also a proven Dwight Howard recruiter.

For CP I guess it comes down to if he wants to play with Conley, or Lillard and Howard? What's the hold up at that point?

We were in the playoffs for what, 14 straight years? It didn't help us land FAs, as you've pointed out numerous times.

Memphis may be awesome, but it's in a Portland kind of way, not an LA/NY or even Miami kind of way.

Yeah, that's the tough part. I was wondering if a sign-and-trade would open up some possibilities? Houston probably wouldn't be averse to getting something back for him. Let's say that Houston liked Meyers or Harkless enough to take them on starting at around $16M or so and Dwight would agree to a S & T starting at around $25, seems like the Blazers could clear enough to absorb the difference. Probably reasons why that doesn't work, but as far as I can see, as long as one of those guys was amenable to the idea and didn't sign any other offer sheets, it seems plausible. Tell me where I'm off base.

Parsons has been in the league 5 years, so he has seen Memphis in the playoffs every year.

We have been in the playoffs 3 of the 5 years he has been in the league.

But I was just answering a question. There are rational reasons he would pick Memphis over Portland. There are also rational reasons he would pick Portland

There is a report out there that Conley and Parsons have talked about being on the same team and while that should give us a little to worry about i do not think that is a huge deal. I believe a lot of these type of things happen between players and most of the time leads to nothing. Heck CP3 , Melo and James talk all the time about a big 3 but it's never going to happen so let's hope for the best and maybe in a few hours turn this into a : Welcome to Portland thread for Parsons

    $20 mill.

I heard on the radio if he signs for $20 mill and we release Meyers, Kaman and Crabbe. Henderson and Harkless signs a value contract, we should be able to keep everyone else?

    Dame/CJ/Connaughton
    CJ/Hendo/Connaughton
    Parsons/Hendo/Harkless
    Aminu/Harkless/Davis
    Howard/Davis/Plums

Too many. we can still get rid of either Davis or Plums, and that/s pretty solid I think? Have no clue how the money wrks out and what Hark/Hendo would have to re-sign for in order to fit within the cap.
Overall I think that is real close to contending

It would be up there. There's risk involved certainly but if healthy it has a chance to be really good.

Dwight is tough to fit in if its more than 16 mil or so.

    Here's the plan I think.
    -Match Crabbe offer
-Sign Parsons to just short of the max (Bataum contract helps the chance of this)
-Sign Dwight to short term deal at 16-17 mil a year (Means no Harkless, or Leanoard plus cutting Montero & Alxander)
-Sign John Leuer with the room exception as a Meyers replacement
    -Sign vet min PG

    Back to the cap calculator:
    http://codepen.io/wayneculverhall/details/mErvbV
If we remove Henderson/Kaman/Roberts and cut Alexander/Montero, then add Parsons at 22.2M (his max based on the cap the calculator used for calculating Dame's starting salary at 24,420,000), and then renounce Harkless and Leonard, and trade Davis for a draft pick...we can basically get to about $24M in space to sign Howard, if that's what we want to do, before re-signing Crabbe. That would leave us with:
Dame/CJ/Parsons/Aminu/Howard backed by Crabbe/Connaughton/Layman/Vonleh/Plumlee. Leaves us with the room exception and minimum salary exceptions to fill out the roster.

Edit: I guess that because of the roster charges, there's really not much benefit to cutting Alexander/Montero (about 300K each). So, we could keep them and still give Howard 23.5M. And of course all of that is dependent on the actual cap figure that has yet to be calculated.

For a few plays a game, that lineup is stupid hard to guard.

I believe that we can renegotiate Parson's contract up to the point where pen is put to paper. So it's conceivable - if unlikely - that the MAX contract was a show of good faith on our part, with the understanding that he would take less if we are also able to get Howard on board. At that point we sit down with Parsons and Howard and figure out an equitable split of our available cap space. Again, I don't think this is a likely scenario, but it's the only way I know of for us to get both players.
