I showed him the article. In particular what you wrote about him. He never hardly breaks a smile. He did when he read that.
If I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure Whitsitt promised Jermaine a bump in minutes when he signed a contract. I wanna say he signed for something like 4 years and $24 million and says he was promised at least 20 minutes a game. Dunleavy for some reason never gave him consistent minutes because he favored veterans. So when he was only getting 12 minutes a game his last season here he wanted out and was unhappy. I would cause problems too if I was that good and the coach refused to play me.
Dunleavy was trying to keep everyone happy. There was too many mouths to feed. Too much talent and ego. And, Whisitt kept raising the bar. Dunleavy wanted to keep him with Sabonis leaving and all. He was really pissed when Whisitt told him he traded Jermaine
"Carr possessed a tenacious and ebullient worth ethic." Whoever crafted that sentence should receive an award.
Problem is, he wasn't particularly good when he played. You hope he produces with more minutes, but he never showed the consistency in games to deserve it. The league is full of guys who can't miss in practice... It's only in hindsight that most people feel we should have kept JO. Dale Davis was considered a pretty good get at the time.
Yup, we were a championship caliber team and we couldn't really afford to give him time over Brian Grant and Sheed. I remember him always making mistakes when he got time (probably because he was nervous) and Dunleavy would just instantly pull him. At the end of the day, it was a failure on Dunleavy's part as coach. I know Whitsitt wanted to keep him.
Totally agree. It's all revisionist history with Jerm - but he was pretty crap and Davis was a great trade at the time. Didn't work out, but it was a much better swing/miss than the Afflalo acquisition.
Yeah, it's one thing to yank young guys when you have Sheed/Grant playing in front of them. It's entirely different when you yank Collins around when Aminu is "in front" of him.
