Great trade. You have to take a risk to get to the next level and we just did that.

Without him, they don't beat the Thunder.

missed this last night as I wasn't online or watching any TV

I do think generically two 1st's is a substantial price. But, if this year's draft is as bad as people are saying, then half of the draft pick package is devalued. Depending on the protection of next year's pick, that value might be reduced as well

essentially, Covington = Ariza as far as fit and role on the Blazers. And last year, Portland was pretty good when Ariza was on the floor. Covington is probably a little better defensively, but he can be pretty inconsistent on offense. Mainly though, he is a two-way player and Portland has too few of those. When Covington is engaged in the offense and shooting well, he's a really good player. Maybe he can be more consistent in the Portland offense. We know Dame will try to keep him involved

Covington's timeline fits Dame's timeline better than Ariza. This will probably be a good trade for Portland. They paid a price, but they received good value. I doubt Covington will be good enough to significantly alter Portland's trajectory. That trajectory will always be shaky with CJ as a #2. But if somehow Portland can add another good player, the combo of Covington and playerX might push Portland close to contending. But playerX can't be Melo or ET....yuck

Slightly ominous reminder: guess who the last player was that Olshey traded a first for?

All right! Something to be excited about. Looks like I am late to the party. Isn't that the way it always is; lose interest because you think nothing is going to happen and then bang! Now can we pick up an extra second pick by tomorrow, or at least move up?

I don't think we're getting much else other than maybe Milsap, who I don't consider a good player at this point. But if Milsap is your 7th or so guy you're doing pretty well, which should probably be where he fits.

I think the Blazers are going to roll the dice on Hood recovering, and Trent, Collins and Nurkic (who is only 26) continuing to improve. Is that enough to contend? Probably not. It gets us a decent shot at the WCF, which isn't bad.

Let's face it--unless Dame can convince another superstar to come play here, or somebody like Trent has a meteoric rise, we aren't likely to do better than that.

I'll restate that. "This makes me feel Whiteside is on his way out as well." I hope that wording works better for you.

Eric doesn't block people who disagree with him. Try not to bring your back up into the conversation. Yes, I'm talking about you and only you.

I was hoping one still might be included in this trade, but I see Houston doesn't have a 2020 2nd rounder this year. They do have a 2021 though. We don't have our own 2021 either. Not sure if we have much ammo to move up in the second round this year.

Hmm, I did not see him play one ounce of defense in that video.

Is Covington our Buck Williams? Could he be the piece that transforms a middling first-round-exit squad into a contender, simply by virtue of providing an element that was missing previously?

Or does he better fit the Kersey mold, while the somewhat-maligned Paul Millsap might be more suited to providing the Buck effect?

Again, I don't block people for disagreeing with me. I block people who shit-talk me. Two completely different things. If you dont understand that, that's fine, because I'm not going to derail this thread with a petty argument.

I see Covington as like Aminu. That sounds like faint praise, but it isn't. Aminu was great for us.

It's asking a lot for Covington to be like Buck or Kersey. Buck was an All-Star and the best player on his team before we acquired him.
