    I'm not buying the Gordon news one bit ... doesn't pass the smell test.

    1) Covington is a much better fit, a better defender, and a better shooter
    2) I don't see Orlando getting more than 2 picks for AG. What we paid for RoCo would have been a huge overpay for Gordon, imo.

    If we were to keep 16 Covington could have been the type of player we drafted. So, I think giving up Ariza and next years protected pick was a nice move by Neil for a plug and play versatile veteran.

    Okay, this has me excited.

    By my calculations:
    * $31,626,953 Dame
    * $29,354,142 CJ
    * $12,138,345 Covington
    * $12,000,000 Nurk
    * $5,406,255 Collins
    * $2,252,040 Simons
    * $2,210,640 Little
    * $1,882,867 Mario
    * $1,663,861 Trent Jr

    * $1,984,005 (Dead money - Vaejao)
    * $2,844,430 (Dead money - Nichols)
    $103,363,548 Total Guaranteed

    Lets assume we get Milsap for the full MLE
    * $9,258,000 Milsap
    And I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Blazers bring back Hood. We can sign him using the Early-Bird rights up to 175% of his previous salary. I'll assume 'worst case'
    * $10,006,500 Hood
    I think we'll bring back Gabriel for the min -
    * $1,620,564 Gabriel

    With 12 players signed, that puts the Blazers at $124,248,612. The tax line is $132,627,000. That puts us under the tax line by about $8,378,388.

    In this scenario, we still have the following exceptions to fill out the roster:
    - Minimum salaries.
    - BAE $3,623,000
    - Trade Exception (Kent Bazemore trade) $7,069,662
    - Bird rights to Whiteside

    With $8,378,388 and the above noted exceptions, what should we do with final 3 roster spots?

    Looking at the current state of the roster, I think we need to add some depth at center and a true backup point guard. I wouldn't be against bringing back Whiteside on a reasonable contract. Or use the TPE and work with another team to pick up a center (Kanter?). Then follow that up with signing a vet point guard using the BAE.

    I love this Blazer activity. I'm all in!

    These are the types of moves the Blazers need to make! Dame is now 30 years old.
    We have enough young guys.

    The TPE for Kanter & #30 (Scrubb) will take 2 of those roster spots.

    I think fans and teams sometimes over value draft picks for the Assoc. these days.

    "According to online site BetOnline.ag, the Blazers have fallen from 33-1 odds for a title on October 7th to 50-1 today, November 17th." (After acquiring Covington)

    Well that is a smack in the face. :smiley-bash:

    Wait a minute, I thought teams couldn't trade consecutive picks

    Are you talking about the Blazers? That is why they have to wait until after they draft tomorrow night to finalize the trade.

    I think it's a case of "we will trade you the 2020 pick after we drafted it and THEN trade you the 2021 pick after that".

    Esp considering the protection on the pick, it's doable.

    So how long do you have to wait to trade a player who has opted in a player option?

    Ariza has to opt in to be traded right

    Guessing that already happened as a condition of the deal.

    Taking Ariza out of the mix really submarined our chances to compete. The league knows we're tanking ....

    It’s the easiest way for a small market to build a quality franchise.

    They clearly think Ariza was the difference between barely making the playoffs and being the 3rd seed.

    Soon as a player opts INTO their player option - they can be traded.

    Ariza was under contract. It was partially guaranteed. There is no option to opt into/out of there. Portland only had to increase the amount he was guaranteed (to ~$7M) to complete the trade under the CBA.
