In the regular season Thybulle could have value. But one way players are totally exposed in the playoffs as they can be schemed by a prepared opponent to have a much more negative value. Thybulle is basically the opposite of Kanter and Melo. Makes sense the 6ers have just decided to move on from Thybulle as they are playing to prepare for the playoffs more than squeak out a few regular season wins. The Blazers might not have any playoff aspirations.

Beyond that; defensive specialists are generally much less valuable than offensive specialists. The offense can control how involved those offensive specialists are with the ball so the team can maximize their utilization. However on defense; the defenders team doesn't control who is defending the ball, the opponent can just give the ball to a secondary creator and take the defensive specialist completely out of the play.

Additionally; teams can help cover a defensive players shortcoming with rotations, in a way that teammates can't help each other with a jump shot or scoring opportunity. Coaches can develop defensive schemes.

Thats why you see offensive specialists all over starting lineups in this league, often even on All-NBA teams. But defensive specialists with major holes on offense often get relegated to 3rd string if not just dropped out of the league.

POR has coveted Thybulle for some time. I would be VERY surprised if they didn't attempt to bring him back next year.

I agree with most of this, but in the playoffs, he can still be valuable by slowing down a guard who might be lighting it up. If he was a starter it would be a bigger problem, but off the bench, I don't see it as much of an issue. (assuming he is surrounded by players who can score) But to your point, he might not be able to play much late in the 4th until they go to an offense-defense lineup scenario when under a minute.

Sixers we’re 10-0 when Matisse played 20+ minutes this year

In theory that's true, but there are caveats.

    1. The Blazers, as currently constructed, are really vulnerable at the point of attack. While Dame has become a decent defender, especially in the post, he has never been a great PG defender. Ant is unfortunately not great there as well. The Blazers really need good perimeter defense - and in theory, if they have a great point of attack defender they can try to maximize Nurk and play him a little more in drop-coverage.

    2. It was reported that he spent a lot of time working on his offense this last year and while he is far from a great offensive player, his 3P% has gone up a bit and he is actually shooting it better than Hart did this year. He will not run the fast break anywhere as well as Hart did, but his superior defense will likely help initiate more fast breaks and in half-court places where over and over we would get the ball to Hart who would either refuse to shoot it or clank it, he will shoot with slightly better percentages.

So, overall, he plugs a hole for the Blazers, might help them utilize Nurk better (this is really a decision for the coaching staff).

Dude, I get that your avatar is funny, but it's not very work safe. Someone walks by and sees that, they're not going to be able to take the time to see that it's Tucker the Russian.

We got a 1st round pick and 5 2nd rounders for an expiring and a guy who didn't want to be here. I think that's way better future value than just hanging on to GP II and seeing Hart walk in the offseason.

I don't have you confused with anyone. You've had the same avatar for I don't know how many years. I'm thinking clearly.

False equivalences are a fallacy. Comparing one bad move to another is just that, comparing bad moves.

Was GP2 under contract or not? Did we have control over his whereabouts for next few years?

    Make sense...

Ok. No worries. Still, not sure what I said or did, but you do you. Life is far too short to put up with people you don’t like
