They are all a year older . . . and Oden didn't play last year. Roy's having a year this year that not many of us ever would've imagined he could. I'd say they have a lot more going for them this year than last.

No doubt. Like you said, one bad week kills you. And next week will be a tough one.

I'll take it. We don't need a nail-biter every night out. Not good for the blood pressure and ulcers.

Give me a boring win every night for all I care. I'll take boring, coasting wins all the way through June if they've got it in them.

Possibly. Although we had Martell last year, as well as James Jones (Rudy seems to have filled Jones's role), AND the ever loved Jarrett Jack. :D

I'd take this year's team with or without Martell on the IR over last year's team with Martell healthy any day of the week. Jones really only brought three point shooting, which (January notwithstanding) this team is not short on.

As for Jack - I've been told that Bayless is Jack on steroids.

Jones's contributions went far beyond three point shooting. He was a smart veteran who played very solid defense and understood the game. I always felt he was slightly underrated. His production did drop a bit after his injury though.

Oden is putting together a nice stretch of games here...could he possibly be feeling close to 100% physically and adapting to the NBA game???

    Nah...

Correct. He's still at about 67%. Wait until he gets closer to 100%...

Bayless seems to be growing into JJ's role.

Hope he outgrows it just as quickly.

That just makes wayyyyyy too much sense to be in a Blazers' forum. You must not be a Blazers' "fan". You come here often?

if jack had 1/2 the intensity bayless does on defense he'd probably still be here.

I wanted to bring up something I have noticed:

Since Steve Blake is out of the lineup, the problem the Blazers had with slow starts seems to have dissappeared.

The one game he came back, the Blazers struggled to score in the first quarter.

Is he too cautious? Is he not agressive enough? Is it coincidence? :devilwink:

even injuries, like last year. Heres guessing if they'd stayed healthy they wouldn't have fallen off. That they're deeper this year and their young talent is a year older is serving them well.

I'd look at the competition we've faced; not exactly a "whose who" of contenders and elite defensive squads. If the hot starts keep up, or the Blazers struggle to get it going with Steve back in the lineup when healthy then I think you might have to take another look, but for now I'd call it coincidence.

Well the Blazers did face Cleveland during that time, and they are not defensive slouches.
