The most overrated Blazer is Aldridge. He has the upside to be better than Zach, but the years flow on and it doesn't happen. He's not even better than Zach at defense, much less scoring and rebounding. The Oregonian wanted a doughboy off the court, so they drove off Sheed and Zach. But off-court softyism transfers to on-court behavior. No more tough guys, this is the new age.
I've been saying the same thing since the first Atlanta game. Even when the team wins, they tend to have stretches where they play with no emotion and poor execution. As for Nate throwing the team under the bus - what was he supposed to say? He was just acknowledging what everybody could see with their own eyes.
Greg's first two shots were 12 foot jumper and a 6 foot hook, so that's not really right under the rim. I do not recall what the third one was, however. But he kept the defense honest, and he can get the other team into foul trouble. Instead we took him out at the 6 minute mark as usual, the other team felt free to drive, our offense became 4 jump shooters and a guy in the middle who isn't really respected by other teams offensively. We started missing, they got really aggressive and drove right at Joel and.. there we were.
He needs to take responsibility for when he has poor game plans, makes bad adjustments, etc. I can only recall once where I heard him take responsibility, and usually he just blames the players. Even Lawrence Frank with his abysmal 0-16 team takes responsibility and doesn't only throw his players under the bus.
I said two of the three. One was a uncontested hook, one was a flip shot under the basket that missed.
It's kind of hard not to. If he put the blame on his players, he would look like even more of a failure.
Popovich took the reins only because they got Duncan. Now he's old and not up to starting elsewhere. VanGundy was a mediocre coach with a lot of spirit and not much else. Like his mentor Riley. Adelman still has it and still moves around among coaching gigs. Kevin McHale is very underrated as a coach, is unemployed, and wants to coach.
Kevin McHale would be an interesting option; he sure got that Minnesota team to work before Big Al went down.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that McHale maybe (just maybe) would look to establish the post and then work outward from there? Crazy I know, but anything is possible I suppose.
Maybe we'd even take advantage of Andre Miller's ability to push and LaMarcus being the fastest big man in the league too! I really don't know why we don't work with Greg more in the low post considering his passing ability. This is going to bite us in the ass in the playoffs, and I will be a sad train for many months.
the high pick and roll with Greg doesn't seem to work out that well. If you are defending Greg you just back off of Greg and cut off Roy or the Pg's dribble. It's not like Greg can hit the jump shot and if he drives it = an offensive foul. Greg's strength is in the post. He doesn't help the team 20 feet away from the basket.
If anybody's still unsure that there might be some role confusion on this team and with Roy in particular, you might find this illuminating: http://columbian.com/article/20091127/BLOGS05/911279993/-1/blazerbanter This is not a good sign a month into the season.
