A player becomes subject to the Base Year Compensation rule if his new contract is for more than a 20% increase over what he was paid in his previous contract. According to Storyteller's website, Webster's increase is less than 20%, so he won't be a BYC player and could be traded any time.
Ok -- thanks -- makes the deal even better from a salary cap stance then. No caphold -- and you can still trade Webster this year if you want to.
He doesn't need to be a leader. Roy is our leader, as long as VC accepts that, I think he'd be great.
The spot we really need to upgrade at is not SF, it's the PG spot we really need to prioritize. Jason Kidd is the vet we really need to bring in. He can still play at a high level! If he doesn't work out, no biggie, his contract expires at the end of the season. If VC doesn't work out we still have to pay four years for a declining player. Just say no to Vince Carter.
Ugh. Not Jason Kidd. He'd be a poor fit for this team, given his poor shooting and his age. I can't see a situation where acquiring a 35 year-old would be a good move right now. Further, the Mavs aren't just going to hand Kidd over for free, since he's an expiring contract, Dallas just gave up value to get him last season, AND the team still is threatening to make a splash in the playoffs. Part of the reason for acquiring Carter is that he would presumably come relatively cheaply. The Nets are rebuilding and VC might not make sense to keep around. Ed O.
I've been really leary of the Vinsanity trade ideas, but if he'd be amenable to the trade and the Nets want to get it done then I'd do the trade proposed by Maxamillion in a heartbeat. Travis is no scrub and would provide the Nets with some actual value along with Raef's bargain-basement priced, 80% insured contract, in turn the Blazers get a guy who can rebound, get above the rim, and would inject a serious dose of veteran savvy and toughness.
The reason why I think Jason Kidd is a great fit for this team is the same reason why Jerry Calangelo viewed Kidd as the most important player on his team - you need player like Kidd when your team is an average of 23 years old. It's like having another coach on the floor. His age is a concern but he doesn't rely on his athleticism. Coach K chimed in about Kidd's IQ:
Vince puts up hollow stats, kinda like what Iverson is doing in Denver. Both players aren't as effective as they used to be, not even close. Another reason why Vince is a bad option: 08-09: $15,200,000 09-10: $16,300,000 10-11: $17,300,000
i agree the PG spot is the biggest concern, we need a floor general - people are saying roy is playing that leader role but he's still learning the game and the processes in leading a team, ideally we need a vet leader who can make changes on the fly and make some things happen. so what are realistic options? andre miller? billups? kidd? hinrich?
He hasn't even asked for a trade! They got a better deal for Kidd, and it could be argued that they got a better deal for RJ. Neither of those players are as good as Carter. Kidd demanded a trade, and RJ was becoming more selfish, and his defense had deteriorated. One comparable situation is the AI trade. The 76ers received good talent, and 2 1sts. Keep in mind, AI demanded a trade, so the pressure was on to get a deal done.
Where are you getting the idea of hollow stats? Carter has been playing good defense, creating for others and passing, shooting well, and driving. He plays in a system where the pace is comparable to the Blazer's.
After Kidd, I like Kirk Hinrich. Two years ago he was a building block for Chicago. Since then he's had a few down season. His value is pretty low right now or at least compared to what is used to be, and he's still relatively young. He really hasn't had a good group to play off of outside of Deng. He could flourish playing along side Roy, Aldridge, Oden, and Rudy.
why would anyone want to add kidd to this roster? yes i understand we need a pg but what exactly did kidd do for dallas last season? it's pretty clear to most that he is done.
