So you're saying Vince Carter is a poor GM? That's okay...we pay Pritchard to do that here, so we'd just count on Carter to play defense, score and pass. He may not be as good as he was five years ago, but he's still an excellent player.
...no, they are not trading Miller ...no, I don't think Billups is the odd man out in Detroit ...no, not after sacrificing last season just to get him ...yes, he is the ONLY PG that could be available THIS season!!! [S.Marion and V.Carter are the other two players that could be available THIS season]
Nocioni's contract kills it for me. The long term contract is top-heavy and decreases every year. But even then, he's not worth what he's being paid.
A player's value is dependent on their salary. Vince is a very good player, and I'd like to have him, but... Vince's salary is worth more than his ability. You could make a max. salary offer for the salary he's making. I'd rather have a YOUNG max. salary FA instead. Vince will be 32 in January. Now, it's certainly true that many max. sal. players never become unrestricted FAs, however some do. Teams are not knocking down the Nets doors with offers for Vince. However, many teams would like Vince on the cheap! The Blazers are no different. One more thought. The Nets are rebuilding and a 32 year old guard-forward whose game is based on his athleticism is not a good fit for them. A big expiring contract, a young player, and a draft pick is a reasonable price. That doesn't mean the Nets won't wait until the trade deadline and sell him to the highest bidder.
He has two years after this one, I think. Team option for one more, which I doubt a team would pick up. It's really not THAT terrible, but I understand the Blazers not wanting it since it hinders the ability to resign players. Wait, doesn't his contract expire before you have to resign most of your big players? http://sportstwo.com/NBASalaries.php?#jump_POR http://sportstwo.com/NBASalaries.php?#jump_NJN Looks good to me.
We can add any amount of salary without a real impingement on our ability to re-sign anyone, since they'll be coming off of rookie deals and/or Bird Exception eligible. There will be luxury cap implications, but for Paul Allen that should be less of an issue if the team is living up to its payroll. Raef's contract, or the pending cap space we'll have this summer, come at a perfect time for the development of this organization insofar as we can add one more high-priced veteran to help the stable of young guys before we have the massive outlays of cash (for Roy, Aldridge, and (presumably) Oden). Ed O.
Mike Bibby? Atlanta has started out hot, but if they fade and Acie Law comes on strong . . . Atlanta might want to add some young talent to go along with Smith, Law, Horford, Johnson. Also, aren't they cheap? getting rid of Bibby's salary could be attractive to them . . .
VC looks good for Blazers... doesn't look good for Nets: http://sportstwo.com/NBASalaries.php?#jump_CLE
Don't like that. With Kidd you take the ball out of brandons hands. A better idea IMO is hinrich, if we're talking pg.
I agree that this is more the deal that nj would accept. I don't think travis is as valued to other teams as he is to us.
hm. I sort of like it. It all depends on how good you believe Webster is/will be. I like the smarts and grit brought to the blazers. I'd prefer a couple other deals more but this is intriguing.
what about redd? He would fit nicely. Talk about spreading the floor. I believe he already has nates respect. He's a couple years younger than carter, but not the all around player. The bucks might listen to offers. Carter is my preference though. Just thought I'd throw this out there.
