I have to agree with you, I'm not seeing the wide open holes in his defensive game scouts said there were.
Only thing I can think of is these scouts heard he used to be 400lbs and became stuck on that.
We'll see what he does against NBA guards I guess.

To me Swanigan looks like Ed Davis.. With the ability to actually make a shot outside of 2 ft.
Swanigan also looks better on defense than Ed Davis imo.

Unfortunately, he has another guaranteed year left on his first.

Who the fuck is this "performance psychologist" on the Blazers staff and why does she still have a job. Both Meyers and Layman have gotten mentally weaker since we got them.

I hate to even bring it up, but the only one from the Blazers that met with Zach Collins prior to the draft was this "performance psychologist". Can we please fire her before she fucks up his head, too?

I am not down on Collins. He looks like he has skills, but I am counting him out from being a factor this year. I thought he needed a year to develop and nothing has changed my mind.

Can Swanigan defend the perimeter? I see him more of a back up 5. I doubt he beats out Noah
Layman has been very disappointing, no doubt. He is great at dunking but not much else.

Very disappointing? He was a second round pick. We can't be expecting that much from him lol

To me, Jake has shown that he can get his shot off, and that he is a good defender. But, you can't consistently shoot 1/x and be a player at any level.

You've got to be kidding me.
I'm not sure I want to watch anymore of these summer league guards struggle to make a basic entry pass.

Well it looks like Collins was on his way a better performance on offense before the thigh bruise. Real nice move on the low post where he score. Swanigan real nice game by the big fellow on both ends. Collins properly day to day due to his contusion. Terry was saying both Collins and Swanigan has two camps they will be attaining there both in August.

Because just throwing money at something rarely fixes it. If it did, our education system wouldn't be in such a shambles and homelessness would have been ended long ago.

Go back and watch video of Meyers as a rookie and in summer league. He was raw as fuck and awkward, but he did not shy away from contact like a delicate flower.

Now Layman, in his second summer league has a case of the yips and can't even make a fucking free throw.

Maybe rather than coddle these guys and tell them they are special, we should hire a former military drill sergeant to whip them into shape.

You saw the difference in these approaches on display today. Has Gregg Popovich ever coddled a player - EVER? No, he calls out his superstars when he thinks they need a kick in the ass.

The NBA is a man's game. This isn't some kick and chase soccer league with halftime snacks and participation trophies. We don't need a "performance psychologist". We need someone to hold these guys accountable so they will hold themselves accountable. How many times have we heard Meyers say he thought he played well, or is making progress, when the exact opposite is true? How many times have we heard him try to blame others and deflect criticism? He's just repeating what he's been told.

Fuck that. Fire the "performance psychologist". The touchy, fealy, kumbaya approach isn't working. Use the money you save to hire an actual fucking big man coach and let Nurk and Swanigan show these guys how it's done. You think those guys need some fucking "performance psychologist" to telling them how special they are?

If we insist on having a "performance psychologist" on the staff, hire Nurk's dad.

I personally am disappointed because I was hoping for more. Just another example of how athletic ability is useless without a solid jumper.

All I can say is I'm glad I stayed at the pool today. I had tickets for the game but it was just way too comfortable in the pool. The scenery was outstanding.

I'm not panicking too much with Layman right now. It's summer league and our guard play is complete shit. If his jumper still is shaky after this season then I'll probably hop on the disappointment wagon.
