"With spring training close to halfway done as of Monday's off-day, rookie manager John Farrell has discovered much about his Blue Jays team, but there's a long way to go before he's able to determine the 25-man opening-day roster. The Jays have won four of their last five games thanks to the depth of talent that by the end of nine innings allows their minor-leaguers and bullpen to match up favourably against the opponent's minor-leaguers and bullpen. Following is a summary of what the Jays have discovered and where they still need to go.

    ROTATION

No official announcement has been made, but Ricky Romero is clearly deserving of the opening-day start on April 1. In his last start, against the Pirates, he was in control for four one-hit innings and is emerging as the leader on the mound and off the field. Brandon Morrow is healthier than a year ago and more aware of what it takes to prepare for the full season as a starter. Brett Cecil has not done anything to jeopardize his No. 3 spot in the rotation.

The tussle for the final two spots in the rotation is coming down to a four-way battle among Kyle Drabek, Jo-Jo Reyes, Marc Rzepczynski and Jesse Litsch. Reyes' candidacy comes down to the fact he has no options left, but it might not be enough. If Drabek is healthy, he should make the cut, leaving a spot for the winner between Litsch and Rzepczynski. A healthy Litsch should earn the nod. "
