I don’t honestly think it had anything to do with how “street” they were. I think it was just that the NBA wanted the Lakers after Indy beat the Knicks the NBA didn’t want an Indy and Portland finals. They wanted a big market in there.

It's really impossible to know. But, the establishment didn't love the Fab 5, Allen Iverson, or the JailBlazers.

AI did win an MVP and go to the finals.

The more conservative at the time culture hated his tattoos and baggy shorts, and let him and everyone else know about it. The NBA said one of his moves was illegal (a travel). The JailBlazers were viewed with scorn, AI was viewed as a threat.

Also, at the time, Rodman was a complete oddball for a black man - not at all the type of "black" Bonzi was referring to.

Rodman was showtime, without fighting authority like Sheed. That always helps.

    I just am, I guess.

It seems like a poor choice of words. Too black indicates there is something wrong

You're not dumb though - you just play it on the internet. You know exactly what Bonzi means.

I just think the NBA is a marketing machine and anytime there is controversy with contending teams they like the hype, for increased viewership. Rodman was a lighting Rod but his team Lambier was just as controversial. BAD BOY IMAGIE SOLD

Oh, for sure! But Rodman's hair, piercings, and cross-dressing got peoples panties twisted.
