For the record, I haven't been following this, and I'm a little late to the party. I don't follow it because it's pretty pointless....just one giant shit-show. That being said.....were these people on the Right legitimately exercising PEACEFUL, NON HATEFUL Free Speech? What little I've heard about it doesn't sound like any Nazis showed up here. If that's the case.....15,000 Liberals protesting against peaceful demonstrations of Free Speech tells me pretty much everything I already knew about the current Alt-Left. And in BOSTON of all places. The irony of that cannot go unstated. But if these were Nazi skinheads.....then fuck them all. Unfortunately, this is the price we pay for allowing extremism in this country: that the innocent people on both sides get stuck in the cross fire when legitimately peaceful rallies and protests take place. I don't like much of the current mainstream Left, but even I'm smart enough to realize that most of them are peaceful, law-abiding citizens. I wouldn't wish their Free Speech to be shouted down or censored anymore than I would want mine to be.
I am confused. I haven't been following this Boston event either, but are you saying that a rally protesting neonazis is anti-free speech? They are exercising their free speech rights to denounce hate. How is that anti-free speech? The idea of free speech is to have a marketplace of ideas. This rally is to demonstrate how many people are against hate and white nationalism. Sure neonazis have constitutional rights to free speech, but that doesn't prevent thousands from showing their opposition to the ideas expressed by neonazis en masse.
No, I am not saying that. I am 1) asking if the Right that showed up, the people whom started the "Free Speech Rally", were peaceful demonstrators who only wanted to support Free Speech and did not preach hate, and 2) I am saying that, if the counter-protesters (from what I'm hearing, it was BLM and ANTIFA) were demonstrating against them, then they need to get their priorities straight IF the Right that showed up were NOT associated with the KKK or Neo-Nazis. You cannot lump all of the Right or the Left in with their respective extremist groups on either side. And if you protest those whom are peaceful and NOT calling for hate or violence against the other, then you are showing ignorance in your protest. I hope that clarifies what I said.
