I'm not getting it. The guy played his heart out for the fans while he was here. He played hurt. He earned his contract, IMO, as he played for rookie wages while being an elite player. The Blazers cut him and cannot re-sign him. He wants to play, and I'm sure he's gone through a lot of suffering to get to the point he can play. Where's the beef?
I'm just not seeing the hate. Yeah, some Blazers fans are disappointed that Roy wasn't healthy enough to play for us, but is miraculously healthy enough to play for Minnesota, but I doubt if there will be a single boo when he takes the floor at the Rose Garden. In fact, I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a standing ovation. Yes, the Blazers ended up using the amnesty clause on Roy (good thing they did, or it would be Dairus Miles all over again), but it was Roy's choice to retire: "This is a very difficult and painful day," Roy said in a statement released by the team. "I love the game, I love the Portland Trail Blazers and I love our fans, but after consulting with my doctors, I will seek a determination that I've suffered a career ending injury, pursuant to the rules of the collective bargaining agreement." They didn't "cut" him, he forced their hand - either let him retire and risk him coming back (like Miles), or amnesty him and move on. Given the situation, the Blazers did the right thing. BNM
Got my tickets, plan to give him a very warm welcome. Don’t call it a comeback: The Rejuvenation of Brandon Roy
It's tough to watch him now. Remember how Patrick Ewing looked for the Sonics and Magic? Well, Roy is the equivalent to that now.
0-5 from deep. He did have 6 assists and 5 boards, so it's the same Roy in that regard, but his scoring just isn't there anymore. Sad.
Well, there's 10 million dollars down the drain for Minnesota. And Brandon gets a bit more financial security, as if he needed any more. I don't understand why you'd sign a guy with no meniscus in either knee, especially a guard. If he were a 7-4 ultra skilled big man, like Sabonis, it would make some sense...
I just don't see Roy mustering up good numbers every game. And when Rubio comes back; Roy will be put on the bench team. I think he will have 1 good game to 3 bad games. I'm rooting for the best for him though. Still hurts to see he won't ever be the player he once was in such a short stint.
They must be pissed really. I mean they thought they could steal Batum away from us; which didn't happen. Then they thought they were gonna get Roy and piss us off and he's shooting .225 from the field.
