That's a horrible contract, and I don't find Nic to be that much better than Turner anymore to justify the extra year on the deal. If Charlotte overpaid us to take on that 3rd year? I might listen. But a straight swap or some 2nd rounder? No thanks. I want Turner and Leonard gone, for certain. But this isn't it.
Batum was banged up a lot in Portland. Not usually enough to keep him off the floor, but usually enough to affect his game. Still, I'd trade Turner and Meyers for him in a heartbeat.
Turner can gain value and so can Leonard..Batum will not...come Feb if they play well early in the season we can sell high on their expiring contracts....bringing back Batum would not be selling high on either of them. Turner said something in his exit interview that I thought was spot on.....it's time to run plays for guys not named Dame and CJ.....Brad Stevens loved him
Lol “selling high.” There’s no such thing with those two fellas. We’d be lucky to get rid of either one before their deals expire.
They can only raise their value...now would be selling really low ...I disagree...if we can package them in a trade, great...but they'll be throw ins now...come trade deadline they'll be expiring contracts which teams really value
you say there is no such thing.....I say there could become such a thing...Batum isn't a needle moving piece and I don't think he's worth Turner straight across right now....I'm not a Turner hater at all...and don't care to debate why really..his defense I really like
The stench of Batum's mediocrity is too overwhelming. I wouldn't want him back even if Charlotte were to pay what's left on his deal.
Their contracts make it almost impossible for them to raise their value. And while they eventually will become expiring contracts, most teams would still need to match salaries, which Portland would obviously have no interest in.
raising their value is totally within their control and only their control...Meyers is like a 6 year old car with 200 miles on it. He played better in small sample sizes this season. Turner has a motor and is a big piece of our defensive identity last season...he can improve his offense for sure...Meyers salary is not extravagant to a team who makes him a rotation player at all...Dallas fits him and so does Indiana, Orlando..lots of teams need bigs who can shoot
$10m for a backup is the definition of extravagant in today’s market. There are starters that won’t get that this offseason.
Batum' s passing skills would make it more dificult for teams to doubleteam Dame. He would improve the defense. Plus he can turn into a rebounding beast, when he wants to. On the other side, he is maddeningly inconsistent. Overall, the trade in the op would upgrade the Blazers at their weakest position. But the big question is. Would Batum want to return to the Blazers, would he be happy here?
POR Gets: Courtney Lee, #14 NYK Gets: Caleb Swanigan, Kenneth Faried DEN Gets: #24 CLE Gets: Kemba Walker, Maurice Harkless, Al-Farouq Aminu, POR Gets: Kevin Love, Nicolas Batum, Cedi Osman CHA Gets: #14, Evan Turner, Meyers Leonard Lillard / McCollum McCollum / Lee Batum / FA? Love / Collins Nurkic / Davis If theres any lineup that Batum could regain peak form in, it's that one.
If I could pick just 1 player I hope the Blazers don’t trade for its Courtney Lee... talk about mediocre... I puke in my mouth a little bit every time I see a proposed trade for him... I cannot understand this forums obsession with him
This is interesting, I’d be concerned defensively Dame and CJ can’t really switch on D and Love plays watch the dribbler run by him type defense. Offensively though that’s a pretty good team.
Lol. He fits perfectly in our TPE, and is a guy who we could very for very cheap or free that could still upgrade our rotation. How is he mediocre? He's a veteran who's a 40% 3pt shooter and a solid defender.
