Sucks. Brock brought a lot to the table. Seriously talented athlete, big personality, not a fuck-up; just good for the sport overall. The HW division is not in great shape (is it ever?) and some new blood would've helped.
Sucks but it is definitely the right decision for him. DFW was supportive in front of the camera, but I'm assuming behind the scenes he was extremely pissed.
Star power is so lacking in MMA right now it seems like it was never meant to last. The UFC might have one or two crossover stars at a time but that seems like the most they can hope for these days.
Meltzer says that Zo Fertitta made a last ditch effort to get Brock, offering him $4-5 million BASE per fight to come back.
If that is true, it was foolish. Did they not watch the 'Reem fight? At the top of his game, Lesnar breaks Overeem like a china cup. The dude is done.
I'm guessing they are less concerned with his ability to compete and more concerned with his ability to sell PPV's. If they brought him in for three fights, regardless of the results, that's 750,000 x $55 x 3 gross. Paying Brock $25-million for those three fights is what, $0.20 on the dollar? Much more expensive than what they pay most of their guys but still a bargain.
