After the Milwaukee Bucks bought out Anthony Mason earlier this week they again got rid of another veteran player with the buying out of Jason Caffey.

Caffey played 3 seasons for the Bucks, playing in 144 games and starting 49.

Last season he was charged with assault in Toronto together with teammates Gary Payton and Sam Cassell, who also have left the Bucks.

In another cost-cutting move, the Bucks announced Thursday that they had reached a contract settlement with veteran forward Jason Caffey and had requested waivers on him. Team officials had no further comment but the buyout agreement is thought to be similar to the one the team reached recently with forward Anthony Mason.

The 30-year-old Caffey, who had two years left on his contract that was to pay him $5.7 million this season and $6.1 million next season, had seemed upbeat about this season. When asked earlier this week about the changes the team had undergone during the off-season, Caffey had called them "good changes."

Before the start of training camp, when the Bucks were engaged in buyout negotiations with Mason, general manager Larry Harris said the team had no plans to become involved in similar negotiations with any other player. But since then, the Bucks have been practicing for two weeks and Caffey has missed all four exhibition games because of a knee injury. He did not attend the team's media day on Oct. 2 because of what the team said were travel-related problems.

Caffey averaged 5.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in 51 regular-season games last season. He did not play in the first-round playoff series against New Jersey because of a sore back.</div>
