I guess it might be defensible from an asset acquisition standpoint (in hopes of flipping him later if things don't work out) but if it's about making the leap from "plucky upstart" to "contender" I don't think people are going to be pleased with the result in a year or two.

Monroe would not make us contenders but he would represent a significant upgrade in PF position. At center be'd be a defensive liability Blazers cannot afford when perimeter defense is also suspect. If Monroe was paired with a top class rim protector like Biyombo then MAYBE it could work but problem is there will be no money to acquire Biyombo if you get Monroe now.

Remember, Ed Davis is planning on putting on 20+ lbs of muscle this offseason. If only Mike Barrett were still around to confirm that it actually happened...

Not so. Monroe has proven that he cannot play with an inside center. You get Monroe, you need a stretch PF. Which sucks because there goes any potential rim protection.

I feel like I already wrote this.... like twice.... but Detroit proved that idea to be false. They had Monroe paired with Drummond, who is easily one of the best rim protectors in the game. It failed miserably. They both played worse while paired together, than they did while apart.

When I read that earlier today, my first thought was...... is Portland not interested in Monroe at this time, or forever? They have too many other options in the next 3 weeks that are better. Which would not require a trade. However if they miss on all of them.......I could see Neil revisiting it in a few weeks if he is still available. Option # 5

I mean if he liked him last year, he probably still does....at least a little.

This link may have been posted earlier so if I missed it, apologies for the duplication.

    http://www.woelfelspressbox.com/blog-entry/21/time-is-winding-down-for-monroe-in-milwaukee

"The best the Bucks could do in terms of a draft pick for Monroe, some NBA officials claim, would be a middle first-round pick, somewhere in the 16-to-22 range. If that is indeed the case, would it make any sense at all for the Bucks, who are coming off a debacle of a season and have to show marked improvement before moving into their new arena, (to) give up an established player like Monroe for an unproven draft pick in what most NBA scouts are calling a mediocre, at best, draft?"

"Monroe’s value was quite high last summer. A spate of teams courted him, including the Portland Blazers who Monroe said he came close to signing with instead of Milwaukee. Sources said the Trail Blazers are no longer interested in Monroe. Ditto for the Knicks, who signed Robin Lopez after Monroe snubbed them."

It seems he could be had quite inexpensively but I'm more interested in the 'WHY' he doesn't fit. It feels like they are leaving some details out.

There's a few centers on the free agent market that would be an upgrade over Monroe, I'm not surprised they aren't interested in him right now.

There is no way we trade for Monroe because wed have to trade away too much just to match up salaries.

Interesting. Not on the Monroe bandwagon, but I'm intrigued.
