Stotts hasn't had a really good post player. LMA when he chose to go inside was Stotts' "post game." My view is a really good coach is going to design plays to get the most of his players. Thibs in Chicago always talked about the team needing more shooting. Yet he designed plays for twin towers (Gasol + Noah) and for MVP Rose (lots of high screen & rolls).
I think it's more of a case of working with the skills you have on the team in the case of last season. Aminu, Harkless, Henderson weren't afraid to hang in the paint..but we didn't have a guy who could back down his man and finish at the rim over real centers much. Leonard, Vonleh and Ezeli will be those guys..if Leonard adds a post game..he'll be a much better player
Yeah but even then, the offense will never be post-centric. It may be a big part of the offense, but Stotts philosophy will never be post-ups 1st. Even with LA, there was a steady mix of ball movement, cutters, motion, high pick-n-roll as well as post ups.
LA played his most efficient ball the few times he'd hang in the paint...then complain about it. Rolo did good for half a season. I just think now with Turner, the alley oop will be back and the pick and roll..he'll make Mason, Ed, Meyers, Noah and Festus better scorers
I guess at Center he would be OK if we kept Ezeli too. But at PF I think it is proven we need guys who can guard the perimeter or we will get killed. No way can he do that. The question we need to ask ourselves is do we still need to get better more on the offensive end or better defensively. I think we got better offensively by adding ET while still keeping Harkless and Crabbe. And I think we are better defensively by adding Ezeli and keeping Aminu at PF. Adding Monroe would make us worse defensively, and could possibly hurt us offensively if he becomes a black hole. Plus he is a UFA next summer and with no Bird rights. Too much to give up for him.
He would be our C, no doubt. There is something to be said for an inside/outside game. The 3pt shot is great, but sometimes a few high percentage baskets inside are really helpful. I'm looking forward to seeing if Ezeli is going to beat expectations. We may already have the C we need.
Because our can do nothing wrong GM, according to some anyway, offered him a max contract last summer.
Can you mathematically prove that this is true? Well then it probably isn't. Can you name the exact person to replace this GM, coach, trainer, player, or ____ {fill in blank}? Well then he never should be.
I'd take on Monroe only if they give up picks to take on his salary. He's gonna be a FA next summer as well.
I don't like him that much, I think we could use a consolidation trade for an upgrade but don't know if he would be an upgrade
He would give us a legit third scorer, but we don't have cap space anymore, so we would have to match his contract. To match his contract, we'd have to send out Aminu, Ed Davis, and Mason Plumlee. If we waited until December, we could trade Crabbe for Monroe straight up, or Leonard/Davis.
NO is done for the summer. It would make no sense to move anyone now. We need to wait for other teams to become more desperate to get the proper return we would require to actually improve this team.
Eh, we don't know that Neil is done. I still think this team is ripe for a consolidation trade. I'm just not sure if it's worth sending out Aminu/Davis/Plumlee all at once. Dame/?? CJ/Crabbe Turner/Harkless Monroe/Vonleh Ezeli/Leonard Or Dame CJ Turner Harkless Monroe With Crabbe/Ezeli/Leonard off the bench.
Id bet that he is done. I agree with you, but we will get much more in that consolidation traded by waiting until the deadline for a desperate team to give more away or take less than they would now.
