The fortunate thing for our organization is all the contracts are up before the hike in cap. That means most our contracts will be steals!
I agree. Their contracts match up but I hope Neil could land Bud without Robinson. But can Neil pickup his hefty option when LA/Lopez/Wes are free-agents this summer? From the start it didn't make sense - T-Rob doesn't fit that MN roster at all. They're already going to have it hard finding minutes for both Bennett and Young as it is. Neither can play SF full-time and both measured sub-6'6" without shoes - PF is their only position. And we all know Robinson is in the same spot - too small to play the five spot, SF isn't even an option. The type of player I think Robinson can turn into (if given the PT) is what Gerald Wallace brought here -- a tough guy/instigator:
Hmmm, don't think so, the agents and players know what's goin on and that the players will almost certainly opt out ofthe current CBA in 2017, so IMO we are going to see a lot of contracts with player opt outs in that year
You guys really think teams are going to throw a lot of money at Wes? I like him too, but if you're a struggling team are you going to blow your wad on Wesley Matthews? He's a nice piece on a good team.
what are you talkin about Mags, "desperate teams" would only do what? we've seen how much teams overpay now and offer stupid contracts, now (2017) they will have a lot more money and capspace to work with
Neil is a good GM, he won't make a dumb trade like Trob for Budinger.
It's pretty ridiculous for you to assume I wouldn't be able to name 10 better SGs, then declare victory before even hearing my response. Afflalo, Beal, Thompson, Ellis, DeRozan, Wade, Harden, Butler, Bryant, Johnson. And if you look at post all-star numbers, Dion Waiters. Besides what does being "top 10" have to do with making 10 million a year anyway? Your argument doesn't even support your point. Here's a list of some pretty good players making under 10 mil. You could make a good case for all these guys being "top 10". Demar Deronzan, Thaddeus Young, Luol Deng, Mike Conley, Ryan Anderson, Monta Ellis, Dirk Nowitski, Arron Afflalo, Goran Dragic...
Wes is a way better 2 guard than Klay Thompson. Thompson is a shooter. Doesn't rebound or pass well and has shabby defensive skills. Wes wins hands down. Underrated 2 guard. Thompson is overrated from what I see.
The statement was top 10. That IMO fits Wesley Mathews. Is he the best? Some nights he is! Is he the worst? Never. Top 10 in the league fits him well. Now if you only go by stats you might be able to prove otherwise but if you look at complete game, defense included? You have a top 10 shooting guard.
Wes and Batum are always called good defenders, and yet our defense is not good and allows a lot of penetration. Some of that is scheme. I can see that Wes is a good post defender but have never seen anything above average in his perimeter defense. Same with Batum, he has long arms and is good and blocking shots from behind so he got a rep of "good defender"
I don't know about all that bro.... Nic guards the best wing players in the league night in and night out. When they play against awesome talent at the guard position it is Wes that takes on the challenge. Defense is the hardest part of the game. Depth makes for better team defense. The Blazers have lacked depth. Take note this year will be different. Many very knowledgeable people say Wes is a great defender. Including Me.
To be fair, the ones I remember the most from Wes/Harden are in the post. Though I do remember the Harden flops he'd try to pull on the perimeter. So Wes, on the perimeter, is great at not picking up cheap fouls. So, that's good.
