I'm still not sure if the Bulls' reliance on vet min waterbug point guards is a feature or bug of their system.

On one hand it's amazing the reliance we've had on two guys we picked up off the scrap heap at the last minute. Without them our last two seasons would've been toast. It sure seemed like the Bulls lucked into Nate and DJ.

On the other hand, maybe small scoring guards just aren't that hard to come by and it's one of the easiest roster spots to fill.

I mean, if Derrick comes back and we sign Andrew Goudelock for microwave offense how different will things be than if we kept DJ or Nate?

It's generally a sign of good engineering if you can remove bottlenecks that might prevent the whole system from malfunctioning.

It matters because not all players are equal. DJ was a godsend in the regular season.. He shot .292 in the playoffs .

EDIT: I don't think it is about diminutive PGs, per se . It's about guys who can get their own shots and score. Rose isn't exactly one of those tiny PGs.

I agree too, but I think guys that can do that and still play defense are a lot more expensive when they play other positions. If you're a PF or C it probably means you can get paid 10+ million a year.

PG's seem like the least important position in Thibs' defensive schemes, which is why the Bulls can lean on one sided players and not suffer collateral damage to their defensive prowess.
