And handling. Rose is going to have to carry a heavy load this season with the roster as currently constituted. It doesn't strike me as particularly wise.

Omer's game is more of what Thibs wants out of his starting C on the defensive end than what 34 year old Gasol or Mirotic can provide.

We don't really have a solid backup center. We have some guys that can "play center" for a bit but not anyone you would be comfortable going 82 games with as your starter, in a Thibs system. Gibson would be the closest, but he's not really big enough to be a 82 games starting center.

If Noah goes down, the Bulls are in trouble or have to adjust what they do. That's true with any team pretty much with an all-NBA first team player though.

    So is Bill Russell's.

    Same with Dwight Howard.

    And Wilt Chamberlain.

    And Serge Ibaka.

That's some awfully lofty company to put Omer in.

I guess the important point is that Mirotic or 34 year old Gasol isn't on that list.

Neither is Omer, since I'm assuming that one has to be wearing a Bulls uniform to be on that list?

So Mirotic and Gasol are higher on the list than Omer.

And if we're going to put players who don't play for the Bulls on the list, I'd much rather have Wilt or Russell than Omer.

Wilt is dead and Russell is 80+ years old. I'll take Omer.

I'll take Ibaka or Dwight Howard over Omer, but they don't play for the Bulls either.

So I'm failing to see where Omer fits into this discussion, unless people are just looking to complain about a guy who turned down 4 years and $24 million because he didn't want to be here, because he wanted to start, and then demanded a trade as soon as we wasn't starting for his new team.

    Wait, maybe that's it?

    Ibaka isn't a center.

    I'll take LeBron over Omer.

Sorry, I guess most of the Omer talk was going on in the other thread.

I was responding to the statement that "Omer is no Mirotic" and that the Bulls are deep at center.

I'll have to see Mirotic play in the NBA for a bit, but I doubt he'll be playing much center. He's more of a stretch 4 type, seemingly.

Based on what I've seen from Thibs over the years, Gibson and Noah are more his type of player than a perhaps soft, euro, highly skilled, stretch 4. This remains to be seen.

Omer is more of Thibs type of player, especially as a legit 5.

I would not be at all surprised if Thibs would rather have Omer on the roster the next couple seasons than Mirotic.

So, I bet that Thibs might agree that "Omer is no Mirotic," but perhaps in a different way than was intended in the original statement.

Thibs likes big men that play smart D, good help D, strong post defenders and that can protect the rim.

It remains to be seen if 34 year old Gasol or Mirotic fit the bill. Omer does. Taj and Noah do.

(the omer contract situation was a tough one to deal with, the decision to sign or not resign Omer wasn't the point of my post)

    -----

This Bulls team, IMO, is in a transition from build #1 around Rose to build #2 around Rose. Its an odd hybrid of "win now" and "win later." For the Bulls to be contenders this year, the "win later" guys need to be really, really ahead of schedule (dougie mcsmoothbuckets, nikola, perhaps snell).

I would bet dollars to donuts that Thibs would rather be going to war with Deng and Omer next season though, vs any of the replacements brought in. They are "win now" guys vs "win later" or "win several years ago" guys. (it remains to be seen at what type of level and how many minutes gasol has in him anymore, let's hope this isn't another Rip Hamilton signing)

I thought this thread was about the Bulls summer league team, not Omer and Deng not being here any more.

    My bad.

Bairstow as 5th big, lack of depth at the C position anyhow, Omer would have been Thibs' kind of backup C not the others.

This will be the third season that Omer hasn't been a Bull...

I'm not complaining, it's your board, if you want to derail threads it's certainly your right. You are certainly allowed to have whatever agenda you want, and you are certainly allowed to promote that agenda if you want.

You are allowed to keep rehasing the same things over and over from more than two years ago if you want.

I'm allowed to find it sad and pathetic if I want.

    Everybody's happy.

    I didn't post about Omer.

And we don't tell people what to post or where to post it.

And as I have suggested ( not demanded) to a few people privately and with some limited success to myself, people post what they want. We can choose to respond or choose to let it go. The chances of winning hearts and minds of those disagreeing aren't great.

I think I posted my message in the incorrect thread, there was a discussion going on in another one where "omer is no mirotic" was mentioned. My humblest apologies.
