Nothing against Hoiberg, but the right move there is to get rid of Hoiberg. Butler is a top 15 NBA player entering his prime. Hoiberg so far has made a mess of a team that won 50 games last year and almost knocked off the team that went to the Finals in the playoffs. He's a total rookie, so he deserves some time to get his bearings, but if its him vs butler, you choose butler and don't think twice about it.
Gasol to Portland for Meyers Leonard? Gets the Bulls under the LT and a young PF/C in return. Leonard is an RFA this summer and could not come to terms with the Blazers, indicating he's going to want a lot.
Who the heck knows? Might be running several ideas up the media flagpole to see what public reaction might be. The Butler clashing with Hoiberg story is a total leak job, IMO. Not that it isn't true, but they are portraying Jimmy as a bit of a malcontent. I imagine it will be salary shedding or a total blow up. Or nothing. I would be surprised by salary adding / pay more in tax.
Most would agree with you, however, the team we have now has always had trouble scoring. And now because of the emphasis on scoring over all defense has suffered. FO won't fire Fred so soon. They would have two coaches they are paying for that will not be here. I say get the players here Fred needs, then if Butler is still here, which he should be, let's see if he complains then.
Meyers is a #11 pick. For Gasol, who likely will leave as a FA. Meyers went to School at UofI Urbana, a local boy. 7' 270lbs with a 3pt shot. Just what Hoiberg needs.
Ya I was not saying I wouldn't do the deal. I have read all day long from several tweets and beat writers, it is a player and pic. We need shooters, Meyers would stretch floor no doubt about it. Season is done anyway. Pau won't be here next season, might as well get us something now.
Unless we get the Celtics trade, this may be what we get for him. Gasol and Tony Snell to the Sacramento Kings forKosta Koufos, Ben McLemore and a lowering of the lottery protections on the 2016 first-round pick that Sacramento owes the Bulls. You do it! Jake Fischer @JakeLFischer 2m2 minutes ago Any deal where the Kings and Bulls amend the protection on Sac's 2016 pick automatically has to become a three-team trade with the Sixers.
If its Koufus / McLemore for Snell / Gasol and some alteration of the Kings pick. * Interesting to see the Bulls adding salary for this season. That's not usual since I think they would pay more tax. (assuming hoopshype is right) * Its a long term investment in Koufus. He's under contract until 17/18 with a player option for 18/19. (assuming hoopshype is right) * McLemore looks like a bad NBA basketball player to this point. He's cheap and gone though if needed at the end of next season. Koufus looks like he can play. * Gasol is going to walk anyway and it doesn't look like Snell will be an impact NBA player, at least not on this team. He is cheap though and I still think shows potential to be a D and 3 guy in the right spot. The Sacto pick rules changing is interesting. At first it seems like a nice deal. Kings are slotted at #9 now so the Bulls would not get that pick as it stands, depending on lotto balls of course. After this trade they would get it. Making it, what, top 3 protected would increase the odds of the Bulls getting the pick this season. But, giving the Kings Gasol would likely make them a better team, causing them to win more games and giving them fewer lotto balls / perhaps making the playoffs. Giving them Gasol probably devalues the Sacto pick, assuming the Sacto team improves with him. So that's not good. If that's the case, we're giving ourselves a poorer pick and basically making a long term / not cheap investment in Koufus. Koufus is due to make 7.7 / 8.1 / 8.4 and 8.7 on the player option. Kind of an anti-Bulls move. Pay more tax, decrease financial flexibility. Maybe they like Koufus a lot?
