Still crazy to me that Banton has been unmistakably better than Scoot.

If Scoot was putting up Banton's numbers fans here would be creaming themselves from excitement.

Chicken little syndrome a bit in here… bust absolute nope for me. Seen enough flashes of why he was the 3rd choice last year, lots of growing pains sure but I still feel like he will get the ship righted and be just fine.

Real shame for him that we were all spoiled by a certain letter O for the last decade and that guy happened to come into the league as a 4 year college player fully matured and ready to go.

Hard act to follow, but in time I think it will be good for the next decade of Ripcity basketball!

They did not need a ball dominant PG.

Actually their numbers are pretty similar:

Not that that's a great thing given their respective draft positions...

@speeds - any idea why the Raptors gave up on Banton?

Since Scoot's from (his most recent) injury:
    upload_2024-4-2_13-43-50.png

    Banton in the same period:

Plus/minus notwithstanding, their numbers are not similar. The gulf is ridiculous, especially considering their respective draft positions.

After doing the "All-Time" listing today, something jumped out at me so I decided to look into it a bit.

I decided to look at the players that seem to have relatively high turnovers per the minutes played (all with at least 1,000 minutes except Robert Pack who only had 894). This is not an exact science cause I only picked the obvious ones by looking at the apparent turnover to minutes played ratio.

How many minutes does the player play before they turn the ball over.

    1. Scoot - 8.6 (180 - 1,548 minutes)
    2. Steve Johnson - 9.1 (538 - 4,872 minutes)
    3. Robert Pack - 9.7 (92 - 194 minutes)
    4. Drazen Petrovic - 10.2
    5. Sergio Rodriguez - 10.9
    6. Abdul Jeelani - 11.0
    7. Raymond Felton - 11.9
    8. Mo Williams - 12.3
    9. Sebastian Telfair - 12.4
    10. Jerryd Bayless - 13.1

Nobody came close to Scoot in turnovers per minute until I looked way up the list and found Steve Johnson.

The guy is a turnover machine. At this point in time, I wouldn't want him in the game in a close situation - too likely to turn the ball over.

    Bust? No.
    Will he improve? Slightly optimistic.

From my perspective, the guy is far from being ready to run a team. Fine to run the backups and learn and get more experience but while he scores somewhat and does well on assists at times, he is a turnover waiting to happen.

Opposing team's favorite player. Pass it to me Scoot!

I don't get this talk of draft positions. Dalano Banton a year and Western Kentucky 31 games, a redshirt year in Nebraska's program followed by another year in which he played 27 games, then he was drafted by the Raptors and played two seasons/95 games before Scoot was even drafted. Dalano should know how to use his game a lot better than Scoot, dude is 4 years older than Scoot.

Well that and they play different positions and are not being asked to do any of the same things not to mention they are different players in pretty much every way.

When you get over the fact he can drive the ball and score over smaller guards you start to realize there's not much else there.

You can compare his 24-games in Boston to his 24-games in Portland. One role is likely his niche in the NBA, the other is a crazy outlier. No team is going to be pursuing this guy to be a starter, and what he gives you off the bench is underwhelming.

You would hope the bball staff of a professional team has more bball bonafides (and can make better projections) than the people in the media.
