Plus of course you have to keep your star happy and with what's happening, Kidd isn't happy. But this is sad: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Scott did not have a chance to address the team he had coached for 3 1/2 seasons. He said he did not receive phone calls from any of his former players, nor did he expect to. Scott said he still wasn't sure if he had been undermined by guard Jason Kidd.</div>
this seems like a catch 22. While Scott did lose respect from his players, the Nets are getting rid of someone who took them to the finals for two years. It seems like he was made the goat out of the whole thing. He is not fully to blame because the GM made some boneheaded moves as well, signing Alonzo to a long ass deal(With Jason Kidds blessing of course) knowing the consequences of his health and not being able to get insured on his contract. Getting rid of Dikembe and not having insurance in case Mourning gets sick again. Picking up Eddie Griffen....I know its early but picking up someone with so much problems is not the best solution to any problem(Just ask the Blazers) The Nets do have a bad record but is canning the coach really getting at the root of the problems. I can foresee a lot of problems for the Nets in the years to come, its just a matter of time before they are exposed in full light.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting InNETSweTrust:</div><div class="quote_post">Plus of course you have to keep your star happy and with what's happening, Kidd isn't happy. But this is sad:</div> Now that is sad....it's as bad as when Horry threw the towel at the Suns coach all those years ago.
He should get one hell of a group of assistants first. Everybody knows that it was Jordan who took them to back to back Finals and not him. The Zo move is not that bad except of course for cap reason. But Jason did re-sign with the team coz of that. So that's a pretty good move. Jason would've signed with the Spurs if not for Zo. Plus, Zo helped K-mart and the others mature in a way. Scott doesn't know how to shuffle players right. He doesn't know how to take care of leads and he doesn't know how to inspire players.
So are you meaning to tell me that Scott had no part in his team going to the finals for two years? Thats BS. Yes the assistant coaches had a big part to do with taking them there but Scott was the one making the decisions to get them there. It didn't even look like Zo had the respect from KMart and Jefferson at all after the running laps fiasco, so how did he mature them? It didn't look like he had their respect at all. The Zo move was a gamble that didn't pay off for the Nets and it was bad because they didn't even give themselves a safety net by buying out Mutombo thinking Zo would play the whole season. I'm just saying to not put all the blame on Scott because the Nets made some pretty bad moves in general in the offseason(other than the resigning of Kidd)
I still think the Net management should have given Scott a couple more games or weeks to get the Net's act together. Byron is a good coach, and I wouldn't mind him taking over the Lakers when Phil is done.
