Please let's not compare him to Leonard. Leonard came into the NBA with one season of starting experience. Everyone knew he was a project. McCollum was a 4 year guy who was supposed to be NBA ready (relatively speaking). He's in his second year and I still don't see any improvement. Makes me wonder what exactly his ceiling is.

Sure CJ has been disappointing. I don't think even his supporters would disagree. But comparing him to Nolan Smith is a good example of why stats aren't everything. CJ is clearly a different and better basketball player than Nolan Smith. And CJ is a better shooter than he's shown. He just needs to get into an NBA rhythm. I think the hope here is that with more experience against the big boys he will catch up to the speed and toughness of the NBA game. It's too early to give up on him as a useful 6th-8th man, but I'm not opposed to trading him for an upgrade with experience who can help more in the playoffs this year. The "inexperienced player 'x' will never get it so just dump him already" mentality has become a humorous meme around here.

No he isn't. He was messing around, shooting, doing drills before the clippers game. He looked fine

This is going to be another one of those threads that pops up a year or so from now and makes people look stupid. Maybe it will be me....but I doubt it.

I'm all about consistency. He's had better games than this one. Let's see if he can keep it up and not follow up a good game with a string of 30 bad games ...again.

Hopefully he helped his trade value tonight. I'll still take crabbe over him any day.

Yeah we all want our bench players to be consistent. We have been wanting that for 40 years. But very rarely do players comes off the bench cold and shoot well consistently.

The bottom line is CJ is not "horrible". Far from it. He may not be great but he is out there hustling, (He rarely stops moving) plays solid D, gets to the loose balls, (more so then his teammates), makes good passes, (even though LA was not expecting them tonight and turned it over twice) attacks the basket, has a pull up J and can hit the 3...

Just give him some time. He started to play well earlier and then got hurt. There is no doubt he will be inconsistent this year. He is still learning. But how do you not get that this is normal for a young player coming off the bench? In your original post you used shooting stats to make your point. Forget the stats, the guy is still basically in his rookie year. (He has played in 63 games) You know damn well he will get better with more experience. It is inevitable.

I would even go for shutting Nic down completely until he is fully recovered and his mind is straight. The combo of CJ, Crabbe, Wright should be able to do this. It might cost a couple games but in the end it would be worth every minute.

That sounds like a very good plan. But Wright would have to relax with his fakes on the 3's. Have you noticed he does them on nearly every play? Then when he gets them in the air; on the rare occasion, he doesn't lean in for some reason...

Watching Wright play is like watching a slow motion replay, except live.

Just to follow up on this statement....

CJ followed up his 17 pt game with:

    ZERO pts
    ZERO pts
    2 pts

He really should be in the D-League.

I'm a lil surprised by his progress so far. I really thought he was going to be more the way Allen and Mr One life er I mean Olshey was celebrating on draft day. With that said, I don't think the whole story has been told about him. The best thing for him maybe to move him so he can finally break free and become something.

I think he definitely has the potential to put up an average of 18ppg on a really bad team. But he's useless to us. Unfortunately Olshey didn't trade him while he was an unknown commodity - he actually had some value back then before everyone saw how badly he sucks.

    10 pts on 10 shots.

At least he hit a few jumpers. Baby steps?
