Hmm...you think people are going to become Blazer fans because they appreciate the fact that our announcers are not "homers"? Ok.
Been trying to like them. Not having much success. The best I can say is there are times when I don't even notice them.
I find myself switching to the away broadcasters and not really missing anything. With the Mikes, I would be pissed if the Portland broadcast wasn't on.
Calabro doesn't seem fully invested (wrong names & score) - but is professional. Hurd tries too hard. . . Worst by far is the camera angles and the cuts. We seem to always miss live action
Here's a serious question for ya....how are the broadcast guys gelling with the team on the road? I'd think Hurd would connect with the young guys on the roster...any insight?
I find myself watching Hornets, Bulls, Spurs and Mavericks games just to see the old core play...but don't tell anyone....Nico is having the best success
Kevin I get. The guy is a legend in broadcasting, but even as an alumni and HUGE Beaver supporter, I still don't get at all why they went after Lamar Hurd. He just doesn't have "it". I thought he was barely a good fit for the P12N where he was at least a former player.
It's all about making all NBA teams identical, with the white guy, the black guy, and the woman. Hurd's analysis is good, and McGowan hired the religious guy for his 3 or 4 cute little jive-ass pronunciations. 99% of his accent is totally white, it's just 3-4 words he says now and then on purpose to earn his paycheck. He should stop acting argumentative with Calabro. He does it seriously, not intending to be funny, and it isn't funny. The biggest complaint I have is that their chemistry lacks clever little laughs, like Calabro had years ago with colormen Marques Johnson and Mychal Thompson. You guys keep saying that Calabro is a legend, but to me he's the newcomer who stole Bob Blackburn's Sonic job 30 years ago. Blackburn had a great melodious, almost musical, voice, but apparently Bob Whitsitt didn't like him and made a Kemp/Karl-like discovery in Calabro. (Blackburn could be overdominating sometimes in conversation, but he taught Calabro how to add real time game stats to his play-by-play.)
If you could escape your narrow-minded school indoctrination, you might learn some history from my posts. Take an acid trip and find out what college was like 40 years ago.
No, that is not what I said, but nice play on words. As a casual fan of any sport, when watching teams you are impartial about, are you going to watch the game with a more even keeled announcing or are you going to watch the game with homer announcers that are biased? Most fans are wanting fairness and I would think would choose the more professional even keeled play calling (obviously quality of play in the games plays a factor in what to watch as well) Many casual fans are turned off by biased announcing. I know I am. I think this is one of MANY thoughts that came to play when they made the decision to replace the Mikes. Again. Devout fans are going to watch no matter what. As sucky as it is, we have less value to the team than the casual fan they want to reel in. Its business. Business and homerism never mix.
Honestly any national game, I'm switching to that. With mike and mike, I never did that. Hurd and colabro are boring, Hurd tries way too hard and is super cringe. Yeah colabro sounds professional. Cool, I guess. Would still take mike and mike any day of the week. They fit well together, their commentary and stories were great, they talked like they actually gave a fuck about the team they were broadcasting for. I'm not feeling this change. I tune them out honestly. At least when we were being blown out I could just listen to mike and mike and instantly feel less salty about the game.
