Thought Hurd was actually pretty decent during his call of the Kings game. Sounded a lot more relaxed than he has to start the season, and limited the amount of cheese. Hopefully he can keep it up!
Calabro and Hurd can fellate me. I've given then all season so far and they're just as trash as the team. I miss mike and mike.
I think people would like them much better if the team played nearly as hard or with as much passion and energy as last year. It's tough to bond to something that is describing a nightly dumpster fire.
I think at some point the Blazers will need to replace Hurd. Keep Calabro and bring in another commentator like Steve Smith.
I would just like Calabro to tell us the things we can't see, such as who we are substituting in and who is going out. Last night I could see Crabb and somone else coming in and he is telling us who the other team was substituting in and never did tell us who went out on the Blazers. We have a hard time knowing how much time is remaining and what the score is in these close.games. Calabro sounds to me like a "radio' anouncer calling the game. It's TV. I can see the play developing but he is still calling it as if I can't see it. Very annoying. He has been doing national radio too long I guess. Hurd is getting better. The whole Blazer Show is much below other years. SHOW US THE GAME AND GET THAT ADD OFF OF THE SCORE!!!!! Everytime they put that add over the score I delibertly look away. Whoever is doing the "manageing" of what we watch such as a sidline coach or player should only be a moment if there is game play going on.
Something tells me that people wouldn't be so raw about the new guys if the team weren't so dispiriting to watch. Also the product ups the degree of difficulty for the announcers when it's this bad; it's tough to peddle subpar goods.
Well, many of you may not like them, but apparently Zach Lowe does. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...-featuring-kyrie-irving-steven-adams-more-nba
i'm okay with it so far. Things like this take time. and I think they are progressing fine considering they are having to broadcast a team they thought was going to be much better than it is.
I miss Mike & Mike. It's kinda sad how excited I was that these past two games were national games and I didn't have to watch CSN. It never used to be this way with the Mike's.
Calabro and Hurd are getting better. Calabro is slowly making adjustments to calling the game as an announcer for a team instead of doing it for a huge network. Hurd i'm having a hard time with because half the time I like him and the other half he feels like Tone did with Wheels, like he is talking to simply fill up air time. They definitely don't flow together seamlessly like M&M did and I miss Rices random rants mixed with actual basketball knowledge, dont' seem to get that with Calabro or Hurb.
He's kind of a cheeseball but he is pretty upbeat. He's grown on me a little but it gets a little tiring listening to platitudes when we are playing like shit. Winning more games would probably fix most of that though.
The only thing I miss is Rice's edge. Neither Kevin or Lamar are willing to say what people want to hear but are scared of saying. They are a bit too PR and not willing to say a bad call is a bad call. Other than that, I am completely happy.
M&M were like visiting the old hole in the wall favorite restaurant - the seats are a little creaky and there is a funny smell from the kitchen - but the food is always great and the grizzled waiter is willing to engage in friendly banter with you. These new guys are like visiting a McDonalds - the bathroom are always clean and every once in a while there is a playground for the kids. Other than this - I do not care one bit to listen to them. They are fine. The service is acceptable - but I would only go there if there is no other option available.
I want an announcing crew that will help me through the bad times. These are the Blazers - they outweigh the good times about 10-1.
