After 6 games, Sharpe is currently 6th in points per game for the Blazers -

    upload_2022-10-30_13-59-11.png

    He's leading the Blazers in 3pt% -

    upload_2022-10-30_13-59-53.png

He's 3rd in points-per-36 (filtering out Brown and Walker who have only played 13 minutes) -

    upload_2022-10-30_14-4-27.png

He's 3rd on the team in turnovers per-36 (filtering out Brown and Walker)

    upload_2022-10-30_14-6-31.png

And he's 5th on the team in PER (filtering out Brown and Walker)

    upload_2022-10-30_14-8-41.png

He's a 19-year-old rookie, so I expect to see a lot of rookie mistakes. But so far, I'm very excited with what I've seen. He doesn't seem to be doing anything that is not sustainable. His shot looks smooth. His defense is solid. And he's getting most of his points without the team running plays for him.

In the poll I voted "Borderline All-Star (think CJ)", but he has me rethinking that vote now. I was never this excited watching CJ play.

Totally agree that scouting will reduce his surprise factor.

So, as a scout, how do you shut this kid down? Serious question. Right now he’s shooting the highest 3pt percentage on the team. You can’t leave him open on the perimeter. Pushing him off the 3 point line only allows him the opportunity to attack the rim. He’s shown great composure attacking the rim and not turning the ball over. If you pack the key on him, he’s got a nice mid range jumper.

What should our training staff be focusing on for Sharpe? What are the scouts identifying as Sharpe’s weakness at this point?

Sharpe’s ceiling is only limited by how well he (and the training staff) can identify his weaknesses and continue to make refinements and improvements each year.

Which is ideal for Portland, feel free to hyper focus on our 19 year old rookie. I like our odds playing 4 on 4 with Lillard, Simons, Nurk and Grant!

Trail Blazers rookie Shaedon Sharpe has become ‘must-see TV’ in Portland

I love that Billups has them practicing lob passes every practice. Can't wait for all the high flying dunks and sweet Sharpeshooting the rest of this season.

    Liked these from Chauncey:

Doesn't sound like he's ONLY getting time because Payton is hurt. I have no idea what the rotation will look like when he's back, but it doesn't sound like Sharpe's just going to go to the bench because he's a rookie. I also like Cronin giving Billups the space to make the decision himself.

I'm just glad Stotts isn't the one helping develop him. He'd be camping out at the 3 line and playing spot minutes.

Yeah, I think it's pretty clear that when GP2 is back, Nas will sit before Sharpe does.

i think we should just embrace the small ball and give Gary Drew’s minutes.

Nas can slot in at backup 4. Winslow can play backup 3 and 5, Gary can play quite a few of the minutes at 3 when Josh is sitting or at 1/2.

we would be small for sure, but Gary, Josh, Winslow, and Little are all great rebounders and can guard bigger players on a switch so I think we would be OK.

Small is fine with good team defense. Just look at Miami. Their rotations and starting lineup are super short overall. Yet, I can almost guarantee they finish top 5 in defensive ratings at the end of the season.
