Draft picks included breaks down to a 2nd-rounder in 2014 to Tampa (becomes a 1st if, hopefully, NYR get to conf finals). If Callahan re-signs in TB then NYR get TB 2nd in 2015 and TB gets Rangers 7th in 2015. Pretty good deal, imo.

Great deal. Cally is breaking down before our eyes. He is 29 with a body of a 40 yr old.

So no 1st involved anymore, unless we make ECF?

They get our 2015 first no matter what. They get our 2014 second, unless we make the ECF, then thye get our 2014 first instead of our 2014 second.

If they re-sign Cally, we get their 2015 second, and they get our 2015 seventh.

At least that's how I understand it...

IDD at all with this, Cally was not worth 6/30 let alone what he really wanted. He is a good player not a star player. He shouldn't be smelling 6 million a year type money. I am not worried about the picks, we have had a loaded farm team for how long now and have won absolutely nothing. Unless you're losing a top 5 1st round pick than to me for what we got back it was worth it.

Dreger just tweeted that Callahan's original asking price from over the summer was 8 years at 7.5m per. No wonder we had such a quiet offseason, Sather probably choked on his cigar when he heard that.

Cally got what he deserved. The boot. So happy we didn't pay him. He's been crap this year and he's getting old fast.

wow thats disgusting, he should be ashamed of himself. Its contracts like Clarkson that let the callahan types try to get these deals. Buffalo is probably going to go hard after him this off season if they dont trade for him by 3pm

So we gave up a 1st and a 2nd plus a player who would have left for nothing and got back St. Louis.

Hmmm...I think we overpaid since St. Louis wanted out and said he would only got the the Rangers.
Also, it wasn't too long ago that some people were bashed about getting 1st rounders FOR Callahan, not having to include to get rid of him. if you remember JASON POMINVILLE got a 1st and a 2nd back for his services.

Hopefully there is more to come.

Jason Pominville wasn't asking the Rangers for 8 years $7.5m and then "settling" for 6 years $6.5m and never getting 55 pts in a season

Callahan trade value was low because of his INSANE contract demands. Sather did just fine here. St Louis only wanted to play in NY but Yzerman still has to get good value back as the guy is still a 30-35 goal scorer

he got potentially 2 first round picks for a player who wanted out and only would go to one team.

Nobody was going to trade for Callahan while giving up something major because his demands were publicly known and utterly ridiculous. It's no surprise that the teams Sather allowed to talk to Callahan (CBJ) were quickly out of the picture once they spoke to him. The only way Sather was going to get something back that was worth it was adding something to the pot.

It becomes 2 first round picks if we made the ECF. If we're in the ECF why in the world are you worried about draft picks that wont help for a few years to come?

So do we root for the Rangers to go on a deep run or lose early to keep the 1st? :)

I get what you're saying Al, but this team as gathered enough youth, i would have rather gave the 2014 1st if 2015 is deep as people are saying. This team has to make solid moves and MSL is one of them, it was a lot to give but worth it. Hopefully sather is working the buttons on something else, swap a couple of lower players log jammed at 3rd and 4th line, plus this is now AV's team, change is apparent.

On the other hand, can someone please name me good 1st round draft picks by the Rangers in the past 30 years. Leetch, Kovalev and Stall. That's it! Krieder is a rookie, we will see. Who else?

We get it 2009, the Rangers are the worst run organization in the history of professional sports around the world.

love how Miller and McIlrath are ready...really...there is READY and ...we hope they can handle it.
Duclar is playing in the Q he is a couple of years and a lot of lb's before we can count on him.
Fast and Kristo are small, so is Duclair for that matter

Lindberg...hopefuly he is ready we will need a good centerman next season as Moore and Boyle should be gone
