Hopefully he plays well enough to help them and improve his value but not well enough where they get fooled into keeping him around.
that is just anti New York Media saying our players suck. Don't buy into it Chuck. Would have been the right move to package Del Zotto and gotten Ryan last season...but noooooo..the upside was too great with DZ
Al, would have loved to see the trade for Ryan. I believe Dis was also on the bus at the time of the rumors. Not sure whether Sather inquired about him, came close to a deal or didn't even call, but it's a miss for sure.
I think we all have to agree that even in this system we do not have enough weapons. The only way to get the desired offensive talent is to trade DZ. it has to be for the right player though, we cant have an over the hill goal scorer has to be someone in his prime. has to be a reliable scorer....I wouldn't mind trying to get Stastny from Colorado, give up DZ perhaps Kristo and would have to throw in Pyatt and a second rounder.
I must have made 50 posts about putting together a DZ package for Ryan over the summer. I know Dump wasn't a fan but he was just what this team needed. A big body to play in the top 6 who can put the puck in the net. My idea was Miller and DZ which might have been overpaying a little but guess what, neither of them are contributing all that much right now while Ryan has 10 GL and 20 pts in 22 games for OTT. I know for a fact Sather could have gotten him.
I understand Ryan isnt a perfect complete player but he is a guy who can and likely will score 35 goals. That is EXACTLY what this team needs. A guy who is a goal scorer. We have been without Nash but we are still 27th in the NHL in goals and a Ryan vs Boston is what this team lacked.
Ryan hasn't turned Ottawa into a winner has he. Plus, he's overpaid, inconsistent and you would have given up Kreider to get him. I'll take Kreider over Ryan because I think he's headed the way into a 30-30 forward.
It's too bad Pouliot is such a dud, if only he could break out while here and live up to his ability, that would be a big boost until they do something.
Its a valid point on Kreider but Ryan absolutely makes this team better but I agree what Ottawa gave up wasnt stiffs
Ryan gets paid $5.1M in this and next season so he's definitely not overpaid. And there hasn't been any type of indication that Kreider would have had to be included in the deal as this team has enough young players to have pull that trade without giving up CK. Sather caught sleeping in his hammock on this one.
People say, get Ryan, get Ryan. For starters, you have another forward with a 5 plus million salary. Second, you surely would have had to give up Kreider to get him. I wouldn't trade Kreider right now straight up for Ryan. Kreider will be cheap for another 4 years. He's much better defensively. While he hasn't fine tuned his finishing skills, he will. Kreider is turning into a legit, powerforward. People wanted Ryan but just throw up his big salary and the fact it probably would have cost us MDZ, Kreider and Miller. No thanks.
1. None of us really knows what we could have gotten Ryan for, or if we could have gotten him at all. 2. It is over and done with and we didn't get him, so who cares really I would think right now. 3. In my opinion we could have kept Kreider and deat MDZ and Miller, with maybe aother decent kid for Ryan, but as I said in # 1, who really knows. 4. What I do think I know right now is Sather needs to wake the F up and make a move. It is really ridiculous now. The guy hasn't done a thing since the trade DL last season. It is comical now.
You're right, it's over with now. But the main point is that he was a guy who was available and Sather didn't choose to get somebody else, he chose to do nothing. We all saw the hole in the top 6 for a scoring winger before the season even started. Ryan was a guy who could have filled it, but nobody is saying he was the only guy.
I'm with you 223. Sather has been awful here, and is asleep at the wheel WAY too often. No doubt about that.
Yeah. You can blame whoever you want when it comes to the New York Rangers. It's the players. No. It's the GM. No. It's the system. How about a putrid owner who wants nothing to do with the hockey team. Funny. He knows nothing about the basketball team either. All he cares about is to make more money. Dolan is a do-nothing owner. He gives Sather carte-blanche . With this idiot in charge, I'll always be a frustrated Ranger fan.
Dolan just gave him a big vote of confidence yesterday, it's going to be all on GS when he wants to step down, unfortunately.
How many goals has Hank given up the past 3 games? And how many have they scored? Can't expect your goaltender to shut out the oppostion every time out in order to pick up wins. Hank rarely gets outplayed. The offense? Well that's another story. Time for the offense to do a little more
