Oh I agree with you completely... But.. When's the last time the Knicks made a smart basketball decision when it came to free agents.. The 90's?
Yup. They have cap holds as free agents. If you renounce those holds, you no longer have their bird rights to resign them over the cap
Paul allen left his seat to check on wes after he went down. Paul allen fucking loves wes the dude is here to stay. I hope we keep this team intact and I know wes will be back even better than he was this year cause that's what ironman does.
The question I have now... If we bring Wes and afflalo back, what do we do with McCollum? The guy has earned time with his play lately. Do we package him for an upgrade somewhere?
Bring him in as back up 2 or even pg with blake taking on a smaller vet roll. Afflalo could play some 3 when needed.
I expect it's going to take Wes some time... I suppose what we do wih CJ may play out in what Afflalo does, exercising the option or not...
Summer of 2016. Which, BTW, is why AAA should choose not to opt out, and why Wes would be we'll-served to request a one year deal.
Dame, CJ, Wes, AAA, Nic--5 players for 3 spots, 144 mpg to split between them. Not unreasonable, especially if we give each if them about 8 games off a year. Quick math tells me that 144 * 82 / 5 /74 = 32 mpg for each (average). IMO, it could be a brilliant and revolutionary way to manage a balanced and stacked roster.
Wes is too much of a competitor to go to the goddamn Knicks, even if they offered max. I really believe that. He's got unfinished business here. A one year deal wouldn't surprise me actually. I could see Wes betting on himself like that. At the same time, I could see Olshey and Allen offering him the multiyear extension he deserves, despite the injury.
We could offer Mathews 4/50, Robin lopez a max, LA a max, give Affalo the same contract as wes, pick up both Blake(not sure if he has an option but if not resign him for a year) and Kamans Option and we would have a pretty large Tax bill next year but that summer when the new money kicks in we would have 20 million to play with. So as long as Allen doesn't mind paying for one year we could comfortably keep everyone.
I would say this, but Lopez better not get max. He isn't a max player type. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if AAA doesn't opt out and wait for a bigger payday when the new cap kicks in
Ya and if Mathews doesn't come back close to the same player we will have fucked are self's. That's a gamble but I kinda like it.
I think the long drought at the Center position we had as Blazer fans really made fans appreciate Lopez being able to play all 82 last year... Solidifying the Center position and letting Aldridge slide to his natural Power Forward. I think we all got caught up in OMG LOPEZ IS AWESOME WE HAVE A CENTER WHO ISN'T MADE OF GLASS... Or is a 6"9 power forward.... (at least that's what I was thinking after last year) (please no one take that as a shot @ the Vanilla Gorilla...) Now I don't think many believe Lopez is a max type center. I just believe he's essential to the success of the Blazers.. Or a blue collar true center like him.
I'm not saying we shouldn't pay the man, but he is not a max player. Max players are like Aldridge or Dame then you have the second tier players like Batum, Matthews and Lopez.
