I wonder if at one point it gets so negative on here people will want to “quit” S2 or “not even join”. Hope not!
I still disagree with your basis for your claim of validity in your preseason prognostication, because nobody, yourself included, predicted or expected the level of offensive ineptitude the Blazers have shown this season. If their offense were performing at anywhere near the level it has any other year of Dame's career, the team record would be where the majority expected.
Our diffetence is you are fine with playoff contention, while I want championship contention. We think about the same. Just satisfied with different levels. Over the tax threshold with no real assets to improve....we don't like. You, however, are ok because we might make the playoffs. I would be ok if we were real contenders
With that way of thinking, I could say that NOBODY on here predicted that our defense would be so good, right? I make my yearly predictions based solely on the talent of the roster and that of other teams. Not how I think their offense will pan out. Two seasons ago when we lost like what, 7 of our best 9 players, I predicted a nosedive as did many others. Luckily I was wrong and our guys gelled and came together to have a fantastic season. Then last season, I said the league would kind of figure us out and we stay around the same and I nailed it and we did. This season, I just think the fact that we stood pat and other divisional teams got better in my opinion we would be around .500. We are actually ahead of my 40 win prediction, thus you don’t see me freaking out every game thread. We have .500 talent on this roster, why get mad about a loss or to hyped over a win we should have got?
Yeah, I like to enjoy my hobby. True championship contention is rare, for almost every franchise. If that's the only time I enjoyed following the game and my team, sports wouldn't be an enjoyable hobby. Also, we're defining "clusterfuck," which is a bit more than "non-ideal."
Actually, a lot of people accurately predicted that the defense would improve significantly based on the impact Nurkic had on the defense over the 20 games he played last season. So, yes you could say that, but you'd be wrong.
I’ll accept that, but I don’t remember reading about how we’d have one of the best Ds in the league. I’ll accept being wrong if you accept I’m going to be right with my win prediction of 40 regardless of HOW I came to that conclusion.
I'll stipulate to the possibility that you might end up correct, but considering that we're still less than halfway through the season, and that we haven't yet reached the trade deadline, I think it's a little early for you to be claiming victory on that one.
So, a thread about positive posts gets hijacked into a discussion about whether the current roster is either a "total clusterfuck" or simply "less than ideal" and whether HCP's preseason prediction about the Blazers underachieving was correct because no one could have anticipated how crappy the Blazers' offense has been. Way to up our game on positivity!
This thread wasn't specifically for positivity, IMO. It was to open up a more meta-level discussion about positivity in this forum. At least, that's how I interpreted it. I don't really think it was hijacked.
Dammit--now we have to have a discussion about the definition of the word "hijacked". I wonder how many times I have to type that word before Homeland Security busts down my door...
This. If the only time a person enjoys rooting for a team is when they are playing for the championship, that person is either a bandwagon fan, hopping from team to team; or they are unhappy most (if not all) of the time and should probably find a different way to pass the time. Hmm...I guess that might explain all the unhappy negativity around here.
