Kind of funny to read this thread. If you go on other team's forums from around the country or listen to their sports talk radio, they all think they have the most annoying or least intelligent sports columnists in the country. Anyone ever read Paige in Denver? Or TJ Simers in LA? There are three or four sports columnists in Chicago that draw 10x as much ire as Canzano. SOOOOO small time to think your team is being picked on by the local media.
I've been to Istanbul actually and I'm pretty sure there isn't a river there. There is the Bosphorus Strait which is more akin to the Panama Canal or the Strait of Gibraltar (another key strategic point in ancient times). Sorry if that sounds small town to anyone here. Just because you live in Portland and you think Canzano sucks doesn't mean your small town. I've been to about 27 countries and perhaps our standards as a species or nation have dropped but Canzano is pretty bad by virtually any reasonable measure. If he's the best in the country I feel sorry for everyone else. On the other hand if Colin Cowherd gets a national show that tells me something. Wow, if the Turkoglu incident didn't get me up on a bridge, then contemplating the plight of sports "journalism" might make me consider it!
Uh I don't think anyone thinks Canzano is horrible for 'picking' on the team. I think they think he's horrible because he's a sensationalist that tries to pass a columnist/journalist who gets facts incorrect on a consistent basis in regards to the things he writes about. He has a terrible understanding of Portland's cap situation and the basic clauses in the NBA'S CBA yet continues to butcher them in multiple columns despite being corrected by his reader base multiple times over several years. If it is small time to wish that your major newspaper employs someone who has a basic understanding of the topics they write about then well I'll gladly be small time. It is embarrassing that The Columbian's Brian Hendrickson outclasses both Canzano and Quick on the understandings of the NBA and the Blazers statistic information yet gets about 1/8th of the 'credit' and recognition that they do.
So? He's still a hack who lies and kicks people when they're down. His knowledge of sports is about that of an 18 year old. That said, every so often (4-6 times per year) he'll write a really excellent article and I wonder why doesn't he try this more often rather than being a hack.
Okay Brian jk thanks for the tip, I'll check his stuff out. Canzano may have a good point every now and then, but I gave up trying to sort out the BS a long time back and won't click his or Quick's links. Both are consistently terrible STOMP
