maybe, but they are going nowhere....and a good GM should know it...deal shaq, nash and yes, maybe Amare and rebuild...better now than wait until the whole thing utterly collapses and those guys aren't worth as much as they are now and your franchise is a rambling wreck and you have just extended your rebuilding window...

Nobody actually thinks they are title contenders do they? I mean, can they even rebound and MAKE the playoffs? That is a major "If" as well IMO...

I doubt Sergio as a centerpiece could get it done...Bayless would be the enticing piece and this draft does offer a uniquely large group of talented PG to replace Bayless with...not that I am overly enthusiastic for many of them, but there are a few (Curry being one) that certainly would lessen the blow of losing Bayless....

Why on earth would we trade Bayless for 35.5 year old Steve Nash, who also suffers from Spondylolisthesis? Without Bayless, we literally have no future at PG.

It's really awesome(and rare) that he's been able to play well at such a mature age, but I really wonder how long that can continue. All the available FA PGs this season are old.

Perhaps Steve Nash is an extremely rare player, like Jerry Rice, or John Stockton, who can play at a high level until he's 40.

If we can get him as a salary dump? Sure. If we have to give up (much) talent to get him? No, thanks. He would be a high-risk, high-reward acquisition, and if the Blazers are going to pay that much for the pleasure of seeing him bounce back or come back to earth, I don't want to have them give up value to the Suns for it.

If he'll play for the Timbers too, then yes!

Yes I think it is very plausible that would happen...Nash isn't Sergio....

Yes. I think so. I've already warmed up to the idea of adding Nash. I agree that they'd first want Bayless, but I also think they'd negotiate to instead include Sergio. A package of Sergio, Steve, and Travis might be amenable. We might have to throw in a second rounder to seal the deal.

Basically they'd receive Serg for Nash, but they'd be able to instantly cut Steve and Travis (saving them $8.25M and another $8.25 in luxury tax). They could just cut Nash, as he too has an non-guaranteed contract, but they wouldn't be adding Sergio (who is a promising young talent!) and they'd only save about $6.5M.

I suppose there are other teams that will be under the cap that could offer as much, but only Detroit and Atlanta appear to be teams with a win-now mentality, and to be honest, neither of those seem like the right fit or are as close as we are to contending. We appear to be in the driver's seat.

The next goal of the team, IMO, is moving up into this draft to get their targeted player. I think we would still have the ammo to do this.

Just as an FYI, some of you may know that I live in AZ, some may not. Anyways, the local sports talker has been pimping all morining that the Suns and Nash are beginning contract extension talks today. No real news here other than just that.

Nate has been a coach in the NBA for 9 years and has always had a slow pace. I can't believe anyone still thinks he wants to run.

While I'd agree it'd be a new development, the Seattle teams he coached were better suited to a slower pace and I also think the crazy young teams he's had in PDX needed some of the fundamentals that come with a slower pace. That said, I think the team is getting to a place where it's solid and could be let off the leash a lot more.

Is slow all that Nate knows or has he just been coaching to his teams? I'd like to think he's more versatile and that we'll see more uptempo play next season. But I'm also an optimist.

In other words, anyone that wants Nash better up their offers?

Or, we've now got Nash signed to a two-year extension, does that intrigue you even Kevin?
