So MacKenzie Scott won’t want to move the team to Seattle?

Whether Clyde haters like to admit it or not he did win that championship with his guy Hakeem in his hometown in '95.

The only reason I hope they're not from Seattle is so paranoid fans won't constantly freak out that they're from Seattle.

Because deep down inside I don't give a shit where the new owner is from. They could be from India, gay, atheist, muslim, catholic, jewish, black, white, straight, childless or an artificial life-form. As long as they keep the team in Portland and field a competitive team, that's all I care about.

I was happy for him, he was my childhood hero and it was heartbreaking that it couldn't be done with us but I felt he deserved a ring and was glad he got it in his hometown. I wish he was a bigger part of what our organization is now but it makes sense for him to be involved with the team where he won a ring, the city he grew up in and the city where he went to college and played for a national championship. For me he's still Clyde The Glide and always will be.

I like you LOVED Clyde as a kid. I wore #22 my entire childhood. It wasn't until I became an adult where I'd have people tell me first hand accounts of how much of a jerk he was. And in the last decade I've seen how hard he's tried to distance himself from being a Blazer. Clyde's stock has dropped hard in my eyes. His great play 30 years ago can only count for so much.

Elie didn't grow up or play college ball in Houston.

When I'd talk to him on court after games or have him sign my shit, he was always really nice to me. He would actually say more than a word or two. So everything else to me is hearsay. What he tipped isn't a concern of mine. I also have no idea of what effort this team has made to have him be a part of what we are now... I don't know what we do in that regard for Walton either. Given the way this franchise has been run, I wouldn't assume that they've been incredibly ingraciating to their former stars.

None of it will matter when the NBA announces that they're expanding to Seattle. Then all of the paranoia about that city can dicipate. The fact is that what happened with the Sonics was a really bad look and the NBA is aiming to right that situation not repeat the wrong with us.

You are correct. Though I am not a Clyde hater, per say.
So I see your Clyde and raise you, Mark Price, Reggie Miller and Tim Hardaway.

You can raise me Reggie because he stayed on his yeam despite only making it to the Finals once and is an all time great, but he never came in second in MVP voting like Clyde. Mark Price was never as good as Clyde and had his career cut short by injury. Timmy Hardaway went ring chasing but failed.

If when Sir Charles or Karl Malone went ring chasing, they had success then the Clyde comparisons would make sense but neither of them won titles and they didn't even try to win a title in their home town so any comparison to Clyde rings very hollow.

Agreed. Any way the fans can rustle up a cool $3 bil? Might even need $7-8 billion to prove to the league that it has liquidity...

I am just saying those are more HOF’ers who never got a ring because of those three mentioned in the first post I quoted.
I was simply bringing a bit of poker levity to the talks. Nothing more. Not trying to compare those who didn't get rings. Just saying there are many who didn't in that era.
Seems we are getting a bit off track from the point I was trying to make.
If you notice, I left Payton off because he did go ring chasing.
Also. Malone tried ring chasing and failed… with Payton.

You are entitled to your opinion but my preference is to have a local owner. We Battle Seattle!

They battled Seattle with an owner from LA, and won a title with an owner from LA. Where the owner is from doesn't matter.

I get it, it could be a republican form Mississippi and it wouldn't matter to you! lol
I just have a preference. I covered that City for 40 years and also have many friends up there. Just get tired of their stuck up, Portland's the red headed step child town/small city, with too many Duck & Beav fans down here.
Yep my preference is a local ownership group or from any place other than Seattle.
