Apparently stable doesn't mean what we think it means. I have read multiple people explain that someone who is "stable" after suffering a major heart attack like she did, could only be alive because of life support and essentially be brain dead. That's what people are speculating. They might have just taken her off life support if the doctors determined that there wasn't any brain activity. Supposedly she had stopped breathing for 30 minutes. That's a long long long time.
Yeah I heard she been on a ventilator since it had happened and that they were working on her aggressively for a half hour to get her breathing. The brain can survive for about six minutes without oxygen before it starts to become damaged and die.

They kept her on life support so family and friends could get to the hospital and so she didn't die on Christmas.
There really have been a lot of big names from the 70's and 80's who died this year. http://www.oregonlive.com/today/index.ssf/2016/12/celebrity_and_notable_deaths_of_2016.html#1
