<div class="quote_poster">Quoting virve119:</div><div class="quote_post">Well if everybody does it, than I guess it's OK to cheat on your spouse.[IMG] And people do care, because it's hard to let your kids look up to somebody who cheats on their spouse.</div>

when did I say its okay? what part of 'character flaw' indicates its okay [IMG] what I said is that it's none of our business and that we shouldn't care ... and people in fact dont care, they just find it a convenient reason to hate Kobe because they want to hate kobe and the media wants people to hate kobe....

If its hard to let your kids look up to somebody who cheats on their spouse, then it sure as hell doesn't reflect on Michael Jordan's sales numbers on apparel. It's sure as hell doesn't affect Magic Johnson, who has been rumored to become the next mayor of Los Angeles. It doesn't affect Dr J's reputation, one of the most celebrated players in NBA history . It doesn't change the fact that Reverend Jesse Jackson still has a huge following. It doesn't change the fact that Bill Clinton is still the most loved president over the last half century.

People only say they care because they need to find a good reason to hate Kobe... but u know what, Kobe was hated even before he cheated on his wife. This incident just provided the haters with more ammunition ...

I think that the players that comment Kobe's achievement in a negative way are just jealous. I'd hate to see the hate that's been unleashed on Kobe spoil this one too. Hope he doesn't respond to any of it.

Oh man.. did Vince ever stick his foot in his mouth with this one.

I can understand where hes coming from, but how can you say Kobe's setting a bad example for kids coming into the league based on how you've royally set the Raptors franchise back ATLEAST 5 years with your lack of effort, over-played injuries, trade demands, and your overall killing of our locker room like Colin cancer.

Vince Carter is exactly what kids coming in the NBA should NOT be like. Everyones so quick to hate on Kobe for being a 'ball-hog' or what not, but how many players can bring their team back from down 18 to win by 22, ALL by themself. Why should you pass the ball when you DONT miss? It just doesnt make sense to me. If Kobe doesnt take that game against us over control, we would've won, and Kobe would've been criticized for putting up 40-50 pts and them losing rather than 81 Pts and them winning.

In terms of their past mistakes, there is no comparison. VC's "criticism" was based on Kobe's on-court actions. Therefore, its fair to bring in VC's lack of effort on the Raptors as something that makes the whole statement hypocritical. If VC had said something like "Kobe's rape case still doesn't make him a good role model," then we could bring in his adultery as an issue. Otherwise its a moot point.

I think VC's point was a legitimate one, but it should not have came from his mouth. I'm sure he didn't mean it as an insult, but by saying something like that he should have known that the media would have picked up the "jealous rival criticises Kobe's performance" angle.

I don't get what some of you are replying here, if you read the article I posted on where the comments came from, he said it was great, but not everyone is Kobe. Even he himself is not Kobe, and not every kid should go out trying to score 81 points if their team get's down. I mean seriously, you think kid's are more likely to immitate asking for a trade (huh?), or trying to score 81 points? It's not like they can ask for trades, or even know what that relates to basketball wise. I have a little brother, and me and my older brother being Raptor fans, he knows all the stuff with Vince, but it has no influence on him in terms of thinking I'm going to be like Vince and ask for a trade. If he talks about Vince he thinks of a guy that can score a lot and dunk well. He didn't even notice if Vince was not giving 100% or not, it's not like he and many other kids analyze his statistical performance in comparison to other years. if a kid does do that, then he obviously won't want to immitate it because you can see the dropoff in his performance. Every child and their mother has heard of Kobe scoring 81 points, and that's not a negative thing to them, while Vince's situation was not portray positvely by anyone. Also if a kid decides not to play their hardest, then they aren't going to be on the team.

People also keep saying Vince admitted to not playing his hardest, but that is a misquote. His exact words were that when he was younger he didn't put his all into working out in the off-season. He never said "I did not play my hardest on the court while on the Raptors", it's just what people wanted to hear.

Exactly, but I doubt be was thinking, "I wonder what the media will spin off my comments" when he said them, he was just talking about what happened.
