Whitesox got a pretty good prospect for peavy. The Yanks probably could have gotten something better for Kuroda. Cano might have helped replenish a barre farm system. Now they are facing a 2014 with even more holes, a still barren farm system, staring an 8+ year deal for cano in the face, and a weak free agent market too boot. So by essentially standing pat for 2013. (Aside from the completely pointless soriano trade) they have pretty much screwed 2014 and who knows how much longer. As I have said they have NO direction. And they have a terrible GM in place to fox these numerous issues.
The farm is not barren, and just because you've quit on the season doesn't mean they have, selling Kuroda and Cano would have meant it's over for a team still over .500, how on earth is that smart?
Because this team isn't good enough. Without adding significant pieces they just are simply no a championship team. it's SMART to look toward the future for once. This team has no direction and look no further than this half assed buying effort. The GM and front office are not even on the same page. It's a total shit show. And yes the farm is barren. There are a few decent prospects in the lower levels but as we have seen the Yankees are full incapable of properly developing them.
Bingo! I saw it the same way - when the market isn't breaking your way as a Buyer, Cashman had an opportunity to pivot to see if he could take advantage of it as a Seller. If acquiring Soriano was going to be just Part 1 of a bigger plan to add more bodies yesterday - he should have read the change and saw that plan was not gonna be possible. Instead, he could have gone into Sell mode. I really think there was a lost opportunity to something positive for next year.
Essentially 2013 is a lost season. Usually in a season like that you at least would like to advance some prospects to become actual players, rid yourself of bad contracts and beef up the farm. The Yankees have added soriano contract and done nothing to advance any player to the majors to be a potential hole filler from next year. So tell me what is the plan for 2014? Overpay a bunch of crappy free agents?
...lol...you really have no idea, do you? ...you evidently were unaware that players acquired after the trade deadline are ineligible to play in the PS...and you're also unaware that Oppenheimers responsibilities have changed.
Spot on! The Yankees may find there way to a playoff spot, or may find themselves with mid-80 win season, but what will they have gained by going maybe 85-77? They will have advanced no players from the farm system, they will not have taken advantage of selling off players to bolster their prospects for next year - and worse - they will have done it with players who have no future with the team.
...I'll echo what I've said before. For a while now it seems that Cashman is; A. either not very bright B. or doesn't give a shit C. or is trying to get fired
Are you sure about that? I think players acquired before the waiver deadline can still play in the PS. And please, enlighten us about Oppenheimer.
...my God, can you read? I said "players acquired AFTER the trade deadline. ...sounds like the only person who needs to be "enlightened" is you, there no "us" to it. Pretty much everyone else knows about the changes in Oppenheimer's duties and responsibilities. And instead of me educating you, how 'bout you do your own googling and investigating on your own?..maybe that way it will sink in.
...wow, just wow. ...no, you obviously can't read...you said; "Are you sure about that? I think players acquired before the waiver deadline can still play in the PS." ...show me where I said ANYTHING about players acquired BEFORE the deadline...please, I'll wait.
...yeah, I would think you would want to do that. ...and no, I'm not confusing you, you did that yourself. And yes, of course, trades can still happen but for the 4th time, those players are not eligible to play in the PS. ...here, I'll summarize for you; 1. you stated that trades can still happen after the trade deadline 2. I informed you that players acquired AFTER the trade deadline could not play in the PS. 3. you then retorted, "Are you sure about that? I think players acquired BEFORE the waiver deadline can still play in the PS."
