<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LeBron vs. Carmelo the sequel had the same ending as the original. Carmelo Anthony scored 20 of his 26 points in the second half Tuesday night, leading the Denver Nuggets to a 115-103 victory over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in a rematch of the NBA's top two rookies. Anthony was just 1-for-5 in the first half, but was 7-of 11 in the second to help Denver to its sixth straight home win. The Nuggets (11-6) have won eight of 10 overall and are off to their best start since 1989-90. James got off to a quick start, but struggled late in Cleveland's seventh straight loss. The Cavaliers have lost 32 straight road games -- 0-11 this season -- tying for the third-longest streak in league history. James finished with 19 points, six rebounds and five assists, but forced several shots late and finished 6-for-19. Denver won the first meeting 93-89 on Nov. 5, but the second game didn't have the fanfare or the celebrities of the original. Still, there was plenty of excitement. Scalpers set up shop in the morning and a crowd of 19,610 were at the game, giving the Nuggets consecutive sellouts for the first time since March 1996. About a dozen Denver Broncos players were in attendance, including Shannon Sharpe and Clinton Portis, who wore Nuggets' jerseys at center court. Colorado Avalanche star Peter Forsberg also was at the game.</div> Full Stroy Box Score
Denver swept the Cavs this season. A heartbreaker for the Cavs, but they had no answer for Nene, Anthony and Boykins.
It was not those 3 that did us in, it was the entire team. Maybe aside of the Kings and Lakers, I have to say that Denver is playing the best team basketball. Every single player knows his role, know where is is supposed to be, and knows what to do. They work every possession, on offense and defense. The Cavs because they are so young and lacking an experienced leader on the court, just get to lost out there too much. The Cavs had solid leads 2 times in this game, but Denver went on a run in the final 2 minutes to ice this game. Take it to the basket, make freethrows, and want to play defense - That is what the Cavs should work on the most, the problems could not be more clear.
Carmelo Anthony is hands down the rookie of the year. According to a CNNSI poll, 62% of 15000 people (compared to 24% for Lebron & 15% for someone else) voted Carmelo Anthony as the rookie of the year. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/ SI Poll: Created: Wednesday, December 03, 2003, at 01:36:37 EDT Who has been Rookie of the Year so far? Carmelo Anthony 61% 8962 votes LeBron James 24% 3498 votes Somebody else 15% 2264 votes Total: 14724 votes
I understand why. Carmelo, like LeBron, puts up great rookie numbers but still has a winning team. The fans and media will look at Carmelo as better because his team is a winning team.

Either they are watching a basketball league other than the NBA, or they are on Nike's payroll. Either way, I dont get it. Sports illustrated seems to be taking a "wait & see approach" before hyping LeBron, while ESPN is taking the irresponsible approach of hyping him 4 he accomplishes anything. ESPN isnt 1/2 the sports source that Sports Illustrated is. ESPN is like the Jerry Springer of sports media, & their recent Dennis Rodman reality series seals the deal. Hopefully the media can look past the ESPN/Nike hype & vote for Rookie of the Year with their heads.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting King James:</div><div class="quote_post">It is because they are experts and you, well, are not.</div> Yeah, these are the same "experts" who predicted the Cavs road losing streak would end vs. the Clippers Wed. night. I think the terms youre looking to describe these guys are "washed up players with no where else to go." Heres another recent poll by Yahoo on NBA rookie of the year in which 67% of 21000 people voted Carmelo for rookie of the year compared to 32% for Lebron. http://polls.yahoo.com/public/archives/2716652/p-sp-4 Poll Results Who will win the Rookie of the Year award? 21447 votes since Dec 2 2003 LeBron James 32% 7024 votes Carmelo Anthony 67% 14423 votes So much for the "experts." The people have spoken.
i dunno who will win it...Lebron has better stats and Carmelo's team is doing better..we still got like more than half the season to go so things can change
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting VAs Finest:</div><div class="quote_post">i dunno who will win it...Lebron has better stats and Carmelo's team is doing better..we still got like more than half the season to go so things can change</div> What?? Carmelo is leading Lebron in points per game, Rebounds, freethrow %, and 3 pt %. The only meaningful stat that Bron is leading Carmelo in is assists, & thats apples & oranges comparing a point guards assists to a forwards assists. Add to that the fact that Carmelo has lead the Nuggets from worst to first in their division, & its pretty obvious if you ask me.
Carmelo: 2003-04 Statistics PPG 18.3 RPG 6.7 APG 3.1 SPG 1.22 BPG .94 FG% .393 FT% .748 3P% .333 MPG 35.2 ------------------- Lebron PPG 16.9 RPG 6.9 APG 6.4 SPG 1.26 BPG .63 FG% .401 FT% .700 3P% .327 MPG 40.2 looks like Lebron has the rebounding edge...check your stats before you post he barly has him in 3%
Lebron is the better player right now I feel..and thats coming from a big Melo fan.He has the all-round skills that make it him the best of the rookie class. He really can do it all..His team is just too young to win enough games. The Nuggets have plenty of vets to help Melo out Lenard,Barry,Boykins,Camby,Miller...That is the difference between the two teams.Nuggets have experience and vet leaders while the Cavs don't.
Ok, well check out the only stat that matters: Nuggets Record Before Carmelo: 17-65 Nuggets Record After Carmelo: 12-6 (1st in MidWEST division) Cavs record Before LeBron:17-65 Cavs record After Lebron 4-15 (2nd to last team in the east) Listen to the glowing comments that GS Warrior coach Eric Musselman (who probably knows what hes talking about) gave on Carmelo after he scored 26 pts to beat them: "It just shows you what a guy can do to a ballclub and change the franchise around in the snap of his fingers,'' Musselman said of Anthony before the game. "He's done that. Obviously he has a nice supporting cast, but that's a draft pick that has a significant impact on a franchise for today, and it's going to be that way for a while because he's a special, special player.'' http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.c...SPGVA3FSS81.DTL Sure Carmelo cant get ALL the credit, but he does get the lions share IMO. LeBrons supporting cast is even MORE TALENTED that Carmelo's supporting cast IMO. Why else are there 4 Cavs on the all star ballot & only 3 Nuggets on the same ballot? The difference is that the nuggets are playing as a team, while the Cavs ARENT. Nugs coach Jeff Bzdelik was the coach last year when the nugs went 17-65, so he couldnt be the main cause the Nugz are winning. The only possible explanation is Carmelo Anthony, & the leadership & winning attitude he gained w/ Syracuse & the NCAA title.

crocopbandwagon, I <font color="Red">warned</font> you in another thread in this forum about letting it go, I won't have yoy ruin every single thread here. And HELLO, ever hear of Co-Rookie Of The Year? They were both named co-rookies of the month already, so that throws out your whole argument.

Carmelo's last 28 pt game vs. the Warriors boosted his PPG to 18.9. He's FG % is also equal to Lebrons now. Looks like Melo is getting hot. Good luck to both rookies.
