First of all Hawes isn't gonna drafted #3 or probably top 10 for that matter. He'll probably be slept on because he doesn't have freakish 7-2 size like a Hibbert does. But what do you mean when you say "after he plays for a few months" Haven't you watched any of his games? He isn't "just another white scrub" He's a hell of a player and talent and has more skills and plays better, more fundamentally sound basketball in general than Hibbert. Hibbert's offensive game is pretty nice though and he has proven he can bang with players his size and at a higher skill and talent level than him (Oden). Also Hawes doesn't get tired running up and down the court like out of shape Hibbert does. I think though if a team can get Hibbert into a good program for conditioning he'll be better than expected.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BrewCityBuck @ May 17 2007, 03:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Your such an ignorant fool. Why don't you look into players and read about them, instead of spouting stupid stereotypes. It's not Spencer Hawes' fault that stupid GM's have drafted average-talent center's very high because of their size in the past. How and hell can you be so sure about a guy when you've never watched him or know little about him? Ignorance is bliss.</div>blah blah blah, what LOADS AND LOADS of college players did in college equals jack squat in the pros.that's why so many college players of the years just don't pan out in the NBA.so yeah, I'll give Spencer a few months in the NBA before saying he's a success or failure.you mean to say Raef lafrenz wasn't impressive in Kansas?ditto Nick Collinson?I don't mean in hindsight now that they've been medicore or busts. I mean strictly on their pre-draft write ups and college careers.1998 pre-draft write up.Raef LaFrentz 6'11" 240 Kansas The Skinny: Maybe the most NBA-ready offensive game of any prospect; can operate in the low post with lethal turnaround jumper or step outside and drill 20-footer. Great size, but needs to add strength. Hard worker sound familiar???hawes write upStrengths: Hawes is very long and has very good hands. He runs the floor very well for his size. His ball-handling, is fantastic, especially in the open court, as he played a lot of guard before his reaching his full height. Hawes is very smooth on the court, and has a great, soft touch around the basket. He possesses good shooting form, and has range out to three point distance, but is only consistent to about 18 feet. He is very fundamentally sound, with excellent footwork in the post. He will immediately be one of the best passing big men in the country, whether it?s out of the post, double team, in the open court, or on the perimeter. He is a decent shot-blocker, but does position himself well on defense.Weaknesses: Definitely needs to bulk up more for life in the paint in college. He needs to develop alternate post moves. He lacks great quickness. He will occasionally settle for taking outside shots instead of attacking from the post. His rebounding skills could be improved. Spencer is not an amazing athlete and has trouble with smaller quicker opponents. He could improve his overall defense.will he be the exact same player?hard to say.could he be a solid pro or all-star?hey I said it could happen, but I'm of the opinion that he's gonna be a bust.I stated it before, there are always 2-4 busts, underachievers in the top 10 and usually the picks from 10-20 is a real crap shoot.look up the last 10 drafts to see what I mean.I will say this year may be more of an exception due to it's depth.so go ahead tout away, I'm going remain skeptical.

You never know, although I will say they're all much more skilled than the poor Kandi man.

LOL for sure.Amazingly, some really good players were drafted AFTER the top 3. Although Bibby has been very solid. strange year for sure.1 LAC Michael Olowokandi Pacific 2 VAN Mike Bibby Arizona 3 DEN Raef LaFrentz Kansas 4 TOR Antawn Jamison North Carolina 5 GSW Vince Carter North Carolina 6 DAL Robert Traylor Michigan 7 SAC Jason Williams Florida 8 PHI Larry Hughes Saint Louis 9 MIL Dirk Nowitzki Germany 10 BOS Paul Pierce Kansas 11 DET Bonzi Wells Ball State also had ricky davis, Rashard Lewis in the 2nd round and Al Harringtonthank gawd everyone had a brainfart and let Paul slip to #10.I'd only consider Dirk ahead of him and Vince at the same level.

Re: CB32's Top 10 Prospects: Revisited

CelticFan, your Raef LaFrentz and Nick Collison (not Collinson) analogies aren't relevant. Why? Raef started off great and looked to be an excellent young player, until his knees F*cked his career over. Raef wasn't a bust, it's not his fault that he has had chronic knee problems his whole career. His game did translate to the NBA, his knees just wouldn't let him get anywhere with his talents. Nick Collison never had the upside Hawes does, and besides, he has been very solid. He's progressing steadily, but surely.

EDIT: CelticFan, give me a break. I just noticed you said you'd give Hawes "a couple months" in the NBA until you call him a bust or not? [IMG] A couple months? That's absurd.

yes CB32 I'm a freaking moron who judges every new NBA talent by December of their rookie year.don't be litteral and asinine.after a couple of months in the NBA, you'll have a better idea of where he stands.IE he can play right now, he needs time to develop, or he'll be starting/first off the bench by the end of his first year. If he's a top 10 talent as listed above, we should be able to have an idea of his NBA potential by January or so. Is that an absolute assessment? NO. Do I have doubts and think the first few months could reinforce or dispell those doubts about Hawes? YES.do I have to draw a picture for everything I say or can you fill in the blanks yourself?

Many rookies don't get much of any playing time at all. It seems like you're trying to be defensive about something that is just dumb all around. You won't know anything after 2 months.

well, you'd probably know more than now.I've said I don't think he'll be that good.a few have said I'm basically insane for saying that.dude has not played 1 min in the NBA so either I'm wrong or others are.should I come back in 3-4 years or wait a few months into the new year.If he's drafted in the lottery, and he's good enough and so good offensively, he should see mins at least off the bench (15-20 perhaps) in the first few months. If he's a project who's not ready then yes, he won't play much.

Our argument is that it will take much longer than a couple months to know how good a player really is. If everyone used your method, Dirk would be considered trash now, right? Many players take even years to break out, not just a couple months. The first couple months are quite possibly the worst sample of what a player might be, because he probably will only get a few minutes per game (unless he is on a crap team). Some good players play like crap early in their careers and others do well and fizzle out. I'm not saying that you have to wait 3 or 4 years, but who knows. It depends on the player and what team they're on.

Hawes is a better offensive player than Oden. (I agree with Danny on this)So if Hawes averages more PPG than Oden will Oden be a bust?
