That wasn't a shitty deal. Perry Jones iii is a free agent and could be doing just as well as harkless on our team for free.
Frye is owed 7.5 mil next season and his contract expires. At age 32, I don't have much interest in him, and he's not really better than Leonard this year.
Per 36 numbers: Frye: 11pts, 6.8 rebs, 2.2 asts, 44% FG, 40% 3pt ML : 13.8pts, 7.7 rebs, 2.5 asts, 45% FG, 35% 3pt
Sean Deveney had this in the Sporting News: http://www.sportingnews.com/nba-new...-frye-aaron-gordon-scott-skiles-mario-hezonja "Now, league sources tell Sporting News, changes could be coming to the Magic’s promising young roster ahead of this month’s trading deadline. Already, the team has received multiple inquiries on big man Channing Frye, who despite being 32 years old and having two years and $15.2 million left on his contract, still is considered a commodity around the league because of his combination of size, defense and perimeter shooting."
http://bkref.com/tiny/xpm7I Frye is having a great Old Man Season for him; 40% 3p shooting, 90% ft shooting. His ORtg and DRtg are sensible and good. IF you don't plan on re-signing Leonard because you don't want a gimmick 3-and-no-D center in your offensive scheme, AND you want some vets for a playoff run, AND you think you can convince the GM of a bad young team with an old guy that you have a young guy that is a plug-and-play replacement for their old guy... Maybe we have a side deal to trade underperforming young guys (we have a couple) added in. There's a lot of angles Neil can exploit here.
ORtg / DRtg: Frye: 111 / 105 ML: 106/ 109 Better defense, better spot shooting. Frye is having a good old man season.
If we wanted that we should have jumped on the suns offering markieff morris for a swift kick in the nuts while horny was still coach
Just a thought... At $7.5M for a couple years, that may be better value than whatever contract Leonard ends up with next year. That might just be the new way of finding deals with the upcoming TV package: grab the guys who were slightly overpaid the last time around and have a couple years left on their contracts, making them MLE or lower types with the new salary cap.
Can't the broadcast team absorb his contract into their salary cap? He would be a massive updgrade over Harvey, and he could eventually replace Rice.
Yeah if we have our sights set on channing Frye this offseason as use with our cap space, I'm going to hurl
